Stereolab plays at the Vic Theater on Sheffield in Chicago.
They covered many new and old songs from various albums giving it this mishmash flair of various goodness. Although the band originated in the UK under their own label, Laetitia Sadier (frontwoman) provided the vintage French mode common to Stereolab sound. I was surprised to only see one woman performing, but I guess those are guest performers they invite to play on occasion.
I noticed the bandmembers switching instruments quite often- one moment on Moog, the next on guitar. And I must say the way Sadier plays the gargantuan trombone is so cool to watch!
I loved the visuals behind the band as well as the lighting– I heard people describing it as an experience that warps you back to the 50s and 60s.
I also overheard criticism of the drums lacking a synching with the rest of the band, but that might just be the Stereolab signature sound.
Their final encore song was a bit of a psychadelic jam that played really well to the audience.
