last night I was fortunate to see condre scr., a post-rock band from berlin I hadn´t ever heard of at all by then. so my expectations weren´t that high, especially because I´m normally not listening much to post-rock at home and if so I can´t handle more than 2 or 3 songs at once.
after the support filling in for another band (not worth mentioning, sry guys) and celebrating how `cool´ they are, some unimposing quite dark appareled guys entered the stage and a fragile looking young man wearing cap and scarf led his companions into a first gentle and bitter song wafting away into raising layers of frugal but sweet overdrived guitar sounds (their stage boards were as big as my flat ;) ), morose bass and spare electronic commitment. the five-piece was completed by a drummer who not only understood what notes to play and how, but also which better to omit.
it´s very difficult to describe the differences between condre scr. and Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky but there were. most of the songs didn´t aim that straightly to a culmination point as mogwai I think, without fail condre scr had their best moments when not driving hard and loudly (get me right, their explosions were high in the sky) but when soft and vulnerable melodies interlaced into complex structures flowing into delight, evoking deepest emotions and eliminating your cognition of beeing somewhere, beeing someone.
after the overwhelming concert we had the possibility to buy the autographed jar marsen ep the band had finished the night before driving the long way down to munich. man, how much more ordinary these guys from berlin are, I hate munich and it´s snooty in-crowd.
so if you like post-rock (even only a little), check out Condre Scr and their release (unfortunately the ep lacks of some cool songs they played live but anyway it´s great). still in the end post-rock only unfurls its real impact and beauty when experienced live, so here are the ...
