    パワー・ポップ＝ビートルズ的なきれいなメロディーとハーモニーを重視するポップなロックンロール…とされるが代表的な曲に共通して見られるのは、若々しい元気のよさ。
    必然的に一発屋が多く、時期的には英国パンクの爆発した直後1978～80年くらいにいい曲が集中している。曲のタイトルも「Pump It Up」「Smash It Up」「Shake It Up」などかぶっており「オーガズム中毒」なんてのもあるが、それらは性行為よりも自慰行為の雰囲気を感じさせる場合も。ガレージ・パンク、サイケデリック・ロック、バロック・ポップ、エモなどと呼ばれるジャンルとも地続きに。
    お笑いみたいな日本ネタもいくつか見られる。象徴的なのが『At Budokan』のライブ盤で武道館を有名にして自分たちもビッグになったチープ・トリック（22・34）。
    イケメンの2人とコミカルな2人という外見も斬新だったがなんといっても作曲・演奏の実力が確か。レコード会社とのごたごたなどあって人気が下降してからさまざまなバンドが現れては消えてゆくが、チープ・トリックほど酒脱な連中はなかなか見かけない。
    とわいえこの系統は途切れることなく新しいバンドが生まれ、元気でポップな曲もたくさん。つくづくオラ夢中で聴いてきた大好きな系統だナ
    日本のバンドですとキャロル、ブルー・ハーツ、PUFFY、ウルフルズなどが近いのかもしれないが、それらの最高の曲でもこの中に混ぜてみるとパワーで見劣りする。人気が長続きしなかったブームタウン・ラッツの3番目か4番目の曲でしかない「She's So Modern」あたりでも、ちょっと日本人には書けないなあ。
    どことなく日本の音楽は線が細くてひよわ。おそらく体型的なこともあるし、精神的なことも両方。
    ブログ開始の年に年間1位に選ばせていただいたボウリング・フォー・スープ（94）なんてのは4人中2人がデブ。もっと前、痩せてて当然だったパンクの流れにあってもロミオ・ヴォイド（59）のヴォーカル女はデブ・ブスで、それでもけっこうがんばってた。
    そんな国を相手によく戦争なんてしたもんだよ。
