huh, rip. subtly jealous too. anonymity is getting old, but there's nothing especially great about separating too.

Your mixtape should have won during the Summer of Sam(pling) back in 2011. Either way, it was my favorite. RISE LAZARUS

If you dig Canaxis you should listen to more krautrock (Canaxis was made by Holger Czukay, a member of Can); I can recommend you some if you want (though starting points for that genre are pretty obvious since the best bands are typically the most well known ones).

Morton Subotnick - Silver Apples of the Moon is another good example of 60s electronic music

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

It's a bit similar to Stockhausen's Telemusik if you're familiar with that; it incorporates radio samples of a Vietnamese singer. It's sort of an early form of ambient music too, quite ahead of its time.

  • kailasha-

IIRC there are two different versions of it; one has an extra track (Epilogue). Not really a big deal since it's a couple of minutes long but it's worth noting.

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

Also, did you ever check out Canaxis (I recommended it to you in response to you saying "is there any 60s electronic music better than this?" to pauline oliveros)?

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

Nope, sounds interesting though. I'll have to look into it.

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

The problem I seem to have with a lot of classical (this extends to other genres as well) is the whole "aura" thing (I tried to describe it in my sidebar) which is why I'm attracted to composers like Oliveros, Radigue, Scelsi, Feldman, etc because generally their work is very immersive.

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

I also assumed you weren't rating based on a criterion of taste when you had Kreayshawn next to Feldman ;)

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

Did you change your rating scale? I seem to recall you had only one 5-star rating last time I checked

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

I'll check that out as well, thanks.

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

I've given some Ligeti a cursory listen but haven't spent too much time; i'll have to revisit that. I have some Luigi Nono downloaded but it's probably a bit too above me at the moment tbh, I need stuff more palletable to my mallgoth tastes ;)

    juin 2013
  • kailasha-

Could you recommend me some modern classical that is very atmospheric? I really like the Scelsi that I've heard, almost sounds like dark ambient to me. Another composer that comes to mind in terms of immersiveness is Feldman.

no problem! if you have a favorite Schnittke release, which would it be? i keep being lazy and not giving him a listen even though that seems to be a grave mistake because i've heard nothing but good things.

"I also listened to Lady Sovereign and Tom Waits obsessively." ha i find that incredibly amusing. And interesting to hear what you were into back then. I remember my first time hearing artists like Lustmord and Swans and being scared and confused ha. And ah that makes sense re: the whole social vs alone thing. It's funny because I used to not like much pop music, or admit to liking any either, but now I love it! It's also just nice being able to talk with people about music, and pop music is something that most people seem to be willing to talk about (and a lot of people seem to really enjoy conversations about it that go deeper than just "oh yeah, it's catchy"). Hope you like the new Ullmann! By the way -- what are you studying?

Did you hear the new Ullmann release? And if so, what'd you think of it?

What music did you listen to before you got into modern classical? Also, how often do you listen to pop music? I appreciate the bits of pop music you've rated on RYM :3

If you are still interested in Gamelan (you better be) you should very definitely download the Hommage a Wayan Lotring and Java Pays Sunda albums here. aaseance.blog//spot.///com.///tau/2013/02/ocora-ra////dio-francetwo.html They are two of the best gamelan albums I've ever heard. Plenty of other great stuff in this post and on that blog.
