  • University internet connection won't let me scrobble - that's the reason for lack of…

    18 nov. 2007, 13h57m

    See title ^^

If it was showing, there'd be one hell of a lot of Modest Mouse (possibly enough to knock TMV off the top spot), also plenty of of monteal, and a fair bit of Radiohead.

Didn't get to see Modest Mouse due to a combination of circumstances, which was highly disappointing. But am going to see Manic Street Preachers in December, and Hot Hot Heat next week.
In between times I've seen Robots in Disguise, a gig at which I sort of almost met Noel Fielding and also I've seen Forward Russia, (I'm too lazy to go find an upside down exclamation mark, sorry.) and they were absolutely amazing.

    So there we go.
  • It's all questions, questions, questions!

    5 jui. 2006, 13h34m

So, here we go again with the question and answer session... I'm sick of 'shuffle quizzes' and 'My top ten artists' journals, but I'm still up for reading these kind of ones...
Forgive me for 'naval gazing' as my mother calls it.

    1. What are you listening to right now?
Inaction (Only got the album a couple of days ago, so it's being listened to quite a lot at the moment.

    2. What song makes you sad?
Probably Street Spirit (Fade Out) mostly, although it all depends on my overall mood. When I'm in a down mood, I can usually rely on Sigur Ros to get me down even further...

    3. What is the most annoying song in the world?
Every now and then I hear this song on Radio 2... it's a woman singing, I don't know what it's called, but it just REALLY BOTHERS me...

    4. Your all time favorite band?
It's difficult to say. Probably either Placebo, Muse or The Mars Volta

    5. Your newly discovered band is?
    Umm... probably Blue Sky Research

    6. Best female voice?
Hmmm... I have a shameful lack of female singers in my collection, which is kind of weird... I love The Yeah Yeah Yeah's lead singer's voice...

    7. Best male voice?
I honestly couldn't say, I've heard way too many. Arguably, Matt Bellamy from Muse

    8. Music type you find yourself listening to most?
    Rock, indie, experimental.

    9. What do you listen to to hype you up?
    Always always Robot Rock

    10. What do you listen to to calm down?
    Sigur Ros, Zero 7

    11. Last gig/concert you went to?
It's been a while! It was El Presidente last December, and they were amazing!

    12. Band you find yourself listening to the most right now?
It seems to be The Mars Volta, and all other projects which Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez Lopez have been involved in.

    13. Most hated band?
I don't really HATE bands... I suppose I find Greenday incredibly repetitive and samey... and Rhianna never ceases to annoy me immensely.

    14. Song that makes you think?
No Surprises often makes me think... somehow it's lyrics always seem able to make sense to me in different ways.

    15. Band that you think the world should love as much as you do?
Well, it's gotta be The Mars Volta, I mean, a lot of people 'online' seem to like them, but I don't know a single person (Bar my ex boyfriend) who can even stand listening to them.

    16. Coolest music video?
I always enjoyed Pure Morning and some of the ones that The White Stripes did for Elephant were pretty awesome.

    17. Music video with the most babe watch?
I'm not really a 'babe' person, in truth! Just all the Hip Hop videos they play on 'Channel U' (Yes folks, that's CHANNEL URBAN) seem full of scantily clad laydeez.

    18. What "do you play/would you play" in the bedroom to spice things up?
Frankly, any music is just a distraction, and would tend to make me giggle...

    19. Can you play a musical instrument?
I learnt Clarinet up to Grade 2, then gave up. I'm trying to learn to play guitar, but I seem to lack the talent/enthusiasm to get any more advanced than Girls on Film

    20. Ever been in a mosh pit?
Yeah, but I always leave... in the kind of venues near me, only a small one forms near the centre, so you can always stay front row, just move to one side. I'm of the 'Dance with your hips, not your fists' mentality.

    21. Are you in a band?
No, but I'd love to be, if only I had the... um... talent!

    22. If yes, what kind of music does your band play?
    Prog-jazz-electro-guitar-wankery.

    23. Ever dated a musician?
No. But my ex's older brother played guitar pretty well, does that count?

    24. If yes, what kind of music did he/she/they play?
He (the brother) played guitar, and sang, and once massacred Mr. Brightside...

    27. If no, would you consider?
Hell yes, musicians are so interesting! (well, clichedly, anyway.)

    28. Do you wish yourself that you were a musician?
Yeah, definitely. Unfortuntely, I don't think I'm EVER gonna be good enough.

    29. Best chick band you know of?
I don't really know of any 'all chick' bands except the Dixie Chicks and The Pipettes, neither of whom I have anything to say about, really. (Hence no artist references - I hate reading through a long survey to see what someone has to say about an artist, only to find it's just one brief fleeting reference with nothing interesting.)

    30. Best guy band you know of?
    Way too difficult to say!!

    31. Last song that you heard on the radio/cd...etc...?
    'Starlight' by Muse.

    32. What do you think of Classical music?
Not really my thing, EXCEPT I've got a track which is The London Philharmonic Orchestra playing the Super Mario Bros. theme tune, and it's just AMAZING!

    33. What do you think of Country music?
    Definitely not my thing.

    34. What do you think of Death metal?
Uhhh... I can't really get anything out of it, but.. y'know \m/, if that's your thing.

    35. Last BIG band that you saw live?
I guess probably Jamiroquai, and it was super duper amazing, even though I was miles from the stage, and I didn't even think I particularly liked Jamiroquai!

    36. Are you a groupie?
No, but only through lack of opportunity. ;)

    37. Do you listen to music in foreign languages?
I don't really listen enough... I've got quite a bit of Japanese music (J-rock) from a friend of mine, a few French tracks by Placebo, and then The Mars Volta have done some Spanish too. I love singing in foreign langauges though, and oughta find more...

    38. What famous musician do you find sexy?
Without a doubt, Omar Rodriguez Lopez I mean... woah. He's just hot, and so damn talented to go with it.

    39. Worst concert moment?
Being punched in the face by some crazy girl at a Funeral for a Friend gig. She was cra~zy, I tell you!

    40. Funny Concert moment?
When the lead singer of The Heights started stripping... but only got as far as lifting his shirt...

    41. Sad Concert moment?
Well, my boyfriend of a year and a half dumped me on the same night as I saw an anonymous local jazz band in the Greek Taverna. It was a great night, till then!

    42. Best local act you can think of?
I'm not aware of that many, really... I did some Graphic Design work for Xms3, so I guess I'm probably legally obliged to say them!

    43. If you were a musical instrument what would you be?
    Pan Pipes. Yeah!

    44. Do you listen to the radio?
Yeah, but much less recently, for some reason.

    45. Do you watch music TV?
No, my parents are too cheap to get cable/sky/digital.

    46. Do you follow the music charts, like the top 40?
Nah, not really, although I used to.

    47. Have you met any famous musicians?
I don't think so... my ex's bro met Funeral for a Friend though, and so did my friend Steph, on two seperate occasions. Apparently, they're really nice guys!

    48. Are any of your friends/family etc musicians?
Nope. I'm not from a very musical background.

    49. Song that best describes your feelings right now?
I'm pretty focused on this survey, so I'm feeling however the song playing on iTunes is feeling. (I stole this answer from the guy before, because it's true!)

    50. Song that describes your life?
Probably No Surprises because like I said before, it's lyrics always seem to relate to me.

    51. Do you know the names of all the band members that you listen to?
No, but I do know the main ones.

    52. Does a musician’s physical attractiveness play a role in the music that you listen to?
Not really. More likely, if I hear a good band, then I find out what they look like, and more often than not, one of them turns out to be hot.

    53. What famous musician do you want to marry?
C'mon Omar Rodriguez Lopez - yeah!

    53. Favourite movie sound track?
Hmmm... I did quite like the Matrix's soundtrack, first and second movie. (even though the only reason anyone should watch the second movie is because Keanu Reeves is hot...)

    55. Any musician pet hates?
    I can't think of any...

    56. What do your parents listen to?
My Dad listens to all the 'Dad rock' classics... Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple10cc... my mum genuinely seems to have no interest whatsoever in music.

    57. What are you listening to right NOW?
'Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes.

    58. Do you wear band etc T-shirts?
No, I would like to though.

    59. What do you think of people who do?
Yeah, go for it. Although Nirvana, Slayer, RATM and Korn T-shirts have got a bit 'old' now.

    60. What music sub-culture do you feel like you belong to?
I have been described by many as 'Indie' looking. so there we go.

    61. What song is stuck in your head right now?
Knights of Cydonia - that Queen style singing bit...

    62. Do you sing in the shower?
    Nah.

    63. If so, what? If not, why not?
Not, because my parents would hear me! Plus, there's no Cd player in the bathroom, and I only like singing along, not singing alone.

    64. Would you rather marry a musician or be one yourself?
    Hmmmm... either, would be good!

    65. What is in your walkman/discman right now?
EVERYTHING I OWN is on my iPod.

    66. How important is your partners taste in music to you?
Hmmm... well, when we were still going out, it was pretty important. I guess he had pretty good taste, and he introduced me to one helluva lot of new things, so I've got to be greatful to him for that.

    67. Hanson moves in next door to you, do you go introduce yourself, or do you arrange to beat them up?
Introduce myself, of course... I'm sure they're very nice boys.

    68. Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll, you dig?
Um... I think I'll just stand by and watch the drugs, but sex and rock n'roll, sure, why not.

    69. Do you cook to music?
I would if there was some way of playing music in the kitchen.

    70. Do you sing on the toilet?
    Hell no!

Made it out the other end!

Put your music player on shuffle
Post the first 40 songs that come up. You can repeat artists if you want. If you have any repeats, skip to the next track.
    Then answer the questions.
(By the way, I did the shuffle on my 'favourites' playlist (Which consists of 400 or so songs) I re-do this regularly, so they're just my favourites at the moment. I thought I'd do it on this playlist rather than in my whole library, since I'll be more cut out to answer questions on songs I know well...)

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Which song do you prefer, #1 or #40?
40, at the moment, but only when I'm in the mood for really listening... if I want some calmness, then 1.

    2. Have you ever listened to #12 continuously on repeat?
No, but I do have a bad habit of skipping back to the start when I reach 8:20 or so... so maybe that's a yes!

    3. What album is #26 from?
It was the B-side to his 'Clubbed to Death' single.

    4. What do you think about the artist who did #15?
Everyone seems to hate them at the moment because apparently they're 'predictable' and 'samey'. They're not my favourite artist ever, but I've still got one hell of a lot of respect for them, simply for being consistantly interesting people.

    5. Is #19 one of your favorite songs?
Um, not especially at the moment, but it is one of Franz Ferdinands better ones, in my opinion.

    6. Who does #38 remind you of?
My mum, cos she once said she liked it, which is unusual for her, because she's not normally into that kind of thing.

    7. Does #20 have better lyrics or music?
I quite like both, actually... but probably the music, ultimately.

    8. Do any of your friends like #3?
I think Naomi does. And the band seem generally accepted, but no one especially.

    9. Is #33 from a movie soundtrack?
No, but it would be damn good...

    10. Is #18 overplayed on the radio?
Definitely not, it was an album track. I reckon it should have been a single though... still, 'Ok Computer' was an album full of potential singles.

    11. What does #21 remind you of?
Huluvu, from Deviantart (http://huluvu.deviantart.com) because it was in his journal that he provided a link to download it.

    12. Which song do you prefer, #5 or #22?
    22, without a doubt!

    13. What album is #17 from?
I got it on the Manic's greatest hits, so I'm not 100% on which album it came off...

    14. When did you first hear #39?
When I bought 'relationship of command' and put it in my CD player, and it was the first track... what a start to an amazing album! I can't remember how long ago that was!

    16. What genre is #8?
    Um... glam rock?

    17. Do any of your friends like #14?
I'm not aware of anyone who has particularly listened to Massive Attack other than me... well, Destro7000 once told me he liked them, so him, I guess. (http://destro7000.deviantart.com)

    18. What color does #4 remind you of?
Umm... I have no idea! I'll say 'Leopard Print', because it's just that kind of song...

    19. Have you ever blasted #11 on your stereo?
It's not really the kind of song you 'blast'...

    20. What genre is #37?
Uhhh... girly electro-dance-synth... it's just damn funky.

    21. Can you play #13 on any instrument?
No chance. It's not one I'd especially nother learning, either.

    22. What is your favorite line from #30?
There's only one, really, isn't there: 'Nicotine, Valium, vicodin, Marujana, ecstasy and alcohol... c-c-c-c-c-coaine~...'

    23. What is your favorite lyric from #23?
'Such a pretty house, and such a pretty garden.'... corny, but it always takes me to that 'pretty garden' in my mind!

    24. Would you recommend #24 to your friends?
Nah, most of 'em think Lostprophets suck, and this isn't exactly the best example of their work...

    25. Is #2 a good song to dance to?
Definitely! When we saw them live it was amaaaazing to boogie to!

    26. Do you ever hear #16 on the radio?
A couple of times, yeah, and I always turn it up to listen!

    27. Is #32 more of a “nighttime” or “daytime” song?
It kind of says 'dark, dirty gig venue' to me, so I guess nightime...

    28. Does #36 have any special meaning to you?
It always reminds me of the time I put it on spontaneously in the sixth form lounge and two of my guy-friends leapt onto a table and started spanking each other to it... aah, good times!

    29. Do any of your friends like #31?
Only Huw, that I'm aware of.

    30. Is #25 a fast or slow song?
This is a good question actually... I guess it's slower than most of their stuff, but it kind of builds up...

    31. Is #35 a happy or sad song?
Kind of sad, I guess, but in a really sweet, beautiful way!

    32. What is one of your favorite lyrics from #9?
    Uhh, it's an instrumental!

    33. Is #34 better to listen to alone or with friends?
    You can do both!

    34. When did you first hear #27?
    Alone, without a doubt!

    35. Name 3 other songs by the artist who did #29?
    Hmmm... 'Heliotrope', 'Enfilade' and 'Rascuache'

    36. Do you know all the words to #6?
    Yus.

    37. Does #28 have better lyrics or music?
Music, for me - the lyrics are in French, so I'm not really sure what it's about!

    38. What album is #10 from?
    Self titled: 'The Music'

    Made it!

  • Top ten quiz things, yay!

    28 mai 2006, 13h26m

    I'm a sucker for these.

Name your top 10 most played bands on Last.fm:
    1. Placebo
    2. At the Drive-In
    3. the Mars Volta
    4. Muse
    5. Daft Punk
    6. Radiohead
    7. Stereophonics
    8. Omar A Rodriguez Lopez
    9. Manic Street Preachers
    10. Editors

Now answer the questions according to the numbers:

    (1) What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
(Radiohead) 'Creep'. I heard that many many years ago and loved it, but it took me about two years after that to get round to buying an album by them!

    (2) What is your favourite album of 2?
(At the Drive in) Definitely 'Relationship of command'

    (3) What is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
Haha! That's a difficult one, when you think about Daft Punk... probably 'Technologic'...
    http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Technologic-lyrics-Daft-Punk/49631FC0E19FF7DA48256FC90006411D

    (4) How many times have you seen 4 live?
    (Muse)
Never. Alas. But they are definitely on my 'would love to see' list... Glastonbury 2004 looked A-MA-ZING!

    (5) What is your favourite song by 7?
(Stereophonics) Uhhh... probably 'Vegas two times'

    (6) What is a good memory you have considering the music of 10?
    (Editors)
Just buying their album, because it looked promising, listening through and realising that there absolutely wasn't even one bad song on there. Oh, and driving along in the pouring rain to 'Munich'.

    (7) Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
(The Mars Volta) Hmmm... 'Televators' is just a beautiful song, and I guess it could be seen as sad, but I just think it's lovely. Oh, probably the first part of 'Miranda that ghost just isn't holy any more'. The vocals on that sound so sad...

    (8) What is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
Woah... well, I love absolutely all of ATDI's lyrics, so that's really difficult to choose...
    Possibly:
    "in basements we will hide
    amnesia in our alibis"
    from Enfilade
I dunno, I could have gone a lot more surreal than that, but that's my favourite song of theirs at the moment.

    (9) What is your favourite song by 9?
Manic Street Preachers - 'Kevin Carter'.

    (10) How did you get in to 3?
(The mars volta) My boyfriends brother had their album lying round, and I saw the artwork and thought it was awesome. I also thought 'the mars volta' was an really good name for a band, so I downloaded 'haunt of the roulette dares' and have never looked back since.

    (11) What was the first song you heard by 1?
Placebo - It was either 'Teenage angst' or 'english summer rain'.

    (12) What is your favourite song by 4?
(Muse) At the moment, 'Supermassive black hole' but there are so many brilliant ones to choose from that it's difficult to decide!

    (13) How many time have you seen 6 live?
    None.

    (14) What is a good memory you have concerning 2?
Sitting in the sun listening to 'Invalid litter dept' on the beach.

    (15) Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
(Omar Rodriguez Lopez) Nah, it's all too freaky for that.

    (16) What is your favourite album of 9?
(Manoc Street Preachers) 'The holy bible'.

    (17) What is your favourite lyric that 3 has sung?
(The mars volta) Again... difficult... the lyrics are written by the same person as in question 8... they're all so cryptic and surreal... I honestly couldn't choose! Probably some of the Spanish in 'L'via L'viaquez'

    (18) What is your favourite song of 1?
    (Placebo) Overall 'Pure morning'
At the moment 'One of a kind'

    (19) What is your favourite song of 10?
    (Editors) 'All sparks'

    (20) How many times have you seen 6 live?
