1. How did you get into 29? (Bright Eyes)
with great trepidation. and the expectation of becoming a lucifugous hermit for all time. okay, yeah, so I confess I kinda lumped Bright Eyes into "emo" without really understanding what the term meant or having ever listened to their music. shush. i've since seen the light. a couple years ago, I accidentally downloaded a song off a fanmix, and--gasp, shock-horror--LIKED it. I've been madly in love with Conor Oberst's Cohen-like poetical angst ever since.
2. What are some colors you associate with 22? (The Dresden Dolls)
this is an interesting question for me because i'm synesthetic. which means my senses are all screwed-up in my brain and i literally, unconsciously see music in colors. so, yeah, to answer this one i'm just going to tell you that a lot of their songs are shades of deep purples, blues, and indigos. their lighter shades are usually those of yellows.
3. What’s your favorite lyric by 33? (Cold War Kids)
"I've seen enough/of nothin' news/the blacker stain on history/or last-laugh blues/not gonna fight/not gonna cry/not gonna shop around for one flag to fly" (from "I've Seen Enough")
4. Make a really head-up-ass, far-fetched connection between a song from 49 and some novel/conspiracy theory/news story/political event/etc. (Weeping Tile)
ahahahah win. um. okay. crikey. "Vegas Baby" is obviously about ALIENS. Why else would the sky be turning red?
5. How many albums by 13 do you own? (The Weakerthans)
two full albums (Left & Leaving and Reconstruction Site), and a couple of odd songs.
6. What is your favorite song by 50? (Bic Runga)
hum. probably "Gravity" or "Election Night."
7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad? (Hem)
ahahaha naturally 39 is the band with, you know, the weeping violins and the lyrics perpetually bemoaning disillusionment. I'm gonna go with "yes, there motherfucking is." "Waltz," "Burying Song," and "When I Was Drinking" make me nostalgic for sad things I'm not even certain happened to me.
8. What is your favorite album by 15? (Tom Waits)
oh my fucking god, Rain Dogs. <3. so. hard.
47. What is the song you can most relate yourself to written by 4? (The National)
DIDN'T YOU JUST FUCKING ASK THIS QUESTION? GAH. okay, fine. anyway. up until recently it was "Apartment Story" or "So Far around the Bend," but nowadays I'd say I'm heading more steadily towards the "The Geese of Beverly Road"/"Mr. November" end of the spectrum.
48. First five words/phrases that enter your head when you think about 37? (Joanna Newsom)
poetry, nautical, ephemera, fey, Sarah Slean.
49. With whom would you like to see 43 collaborate? (This Is Ivy League)
huh, good question. can i cop out and say Gabe, Vicky-T, and Nate*? yes, of course i can, and i will. thank you, sir, and GOOD DAY.
*This Is Ivy League is a side project of Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackington, who are the missing members from this list of Cobra Starship membrs. heh.
50. Do you own any memorabilia related to 20? (Rufus Wainwright)
aha, nope. i only own albums. not even ticket stubs, sadly, although i've very nearly missed his shows several times, which always stings. glad to see we can end this thing on an upbeat note, mr./ms./mx. survey scribe. gosh.
EDIT: OKAY, so, apparently last.fm decided it's okay to fucking delete 9-46. dkfjbdskjfhksdjf. NOT ON. >:(
