Thanks, you've got great taste in music. I also like your "About Me", especially the bit: "I listened to various types of music, always looking for something, but never finding it.". Exactly how I felt before I started listening to metal. Cheers!

I just see that you listen to the Australian band Hemina as well. Might be obvious of course, since you're from Down Under as well. ;-) I got a Synthetic-copy from a colleague the other day and I think it's a very good album! Greetings from the Flatlands (Netherlands)

Ah, I'm glad you like it so much! I have been having trouble getting into it. There's songs I like, but as a whole I've been unable to either swallow it or really become fascinated by it. It might be me, but the solos are really getting to me... they seem more forced (or obligatory) than organic. And I agree totally... (Edge of Forever!!) that it's so hard to top those older highlights (which is usually the case). But I must also admit that I am really critical of new albums by bands I already adore... (Kamelot and Nevermore are recent examples that disappointed me...) I don't want to be a pessimist though... I really want to be blown away!

À propos de moi

Music is the supreme ruler of life. Metal is the supreme ruler of music. Prog is the supreme ruler of metal. \m/ >< \m/

I listen to music at work, at home, on the train, with friends... I even sometimes have music on while I’m watching TV.

My true love is metal, with a particular shine on progressive metal. I love any music that conveys a sense of passion and depth of emotion. I am not restricted to metal at all, but I do happen to love most things metal. =) I am also quite partial to rock and a lot of the darker classical pieces, both modern and the oldies.

I haven’t been into metal my whole life. Truth be told, years ago I thought metal was just a bunch of freaks in black screaming and growling into a mic with a bunch of meaningless noise in the background. I have since developed an appreciation of the more melodic hard and heavy metal, growls and all, if it has been made skilfully. All those years I didn't know what I was missing out on. I listened to various types of music, always looking for something, but never finding it. I found a Metallica album listened to it a few times and thought some of it was pretty good, and a few songs were awesome. It was able to affect my mood, which no other music had ever done before, but it didn’t send me spiraling into the world of metal, it merely cracked the shell slightly. I guess you could say it was my first taste.

Then amidst some other huge, crazy, major changes in my life, basically involving my life as I knew it ending, and a fresh slate appearing in front of me, I stumbled across Symphony X. Symphony X is my first love. I will always count them as my number one, both because they make some amazingly awesome music, and because they signify the start of my new life. I met some new people and made new friends who helped me find even more awesomness in music and I have been discovering the real me ever since. Music has seen me through the absolute worst times in my life and been there through the absolute best times. I can’t imagine a world without it.

I haven’t been into Metallica since I was three, and I can’t tell you which Iron Maiden album is my favourite by title, I haven't memorised the titles of every Black Sabbath song and couldn't name the ones that I love and those that I hate. Names are hard. If you want to judge me based on how many album titles I can rattle off and what year they were released then feel free, but I will fail, and that’s fine with me. I’d like to know more, it would make choosing songs for my playlists easier =P. I know that I love the bands that I love, but don’t be surprised if I don’t know albums or song titles, and I possibly won’t even be able to tell you the name of the band if you play a song by them if it's not one I'm immediately and intimately familiar with. If you think that means I don’t know what I love, then you’re wrong.

I'm merely a babe in a new world and know almost NOTHING compared to long-time metalheads, but I'm starting to find my feet and learning that there's a crazy-awesome world of metal to get lost and live in. :-) I can't believe I lived so long without it!

This is a mere sampling of some of my favourite bands. They can change or deepen my mood, and send me to another world.

Symphony X is top of the list. It was my first love! My other loves are:
Planet X,
Dream Theater,
Friar Rush,
Dead Soul Tribe,
The Eternal,
Fates Warning,
Lemur Voice,
Black Sabbath
Black Label Society,
Subway to Sally,
Black Country Communion,
Animals As Leaders,
The Pineapple Thief,
Pain of Salvation,
Porcupine Tree,
Chroma Key,
Tommy Emmanuel,
John Farnham,
Led Zeppelin,
Emerson, Lake & Palmer,
Pink Floyd,
Deep Purple,
Liquid Tension Experiment,
Vanden Plas,
Iced Earth,
Sonata Artica,
Argument Soul,
In Flames,
Iron Maiden,
Angel Dust,
Dali's Dilemma,
and a THOUSAND more that I can't think of right now.

Oh, and did I mention Symphony X?!! ^_^
