Ouch, I have no idea man. Maybe what I'm listening right now? Ghäst/Yoga split, it's quite good, the first band is like doom metal/black metal but slower (similar to Moss and Monarch), the other is, well, just "psychedelic BM".

An older one? Maybe. You could try The Eerie Cold if you want, although that's still close to Halmstad (though more rooted in black metal), or you could do the sane thing and get Klagopsalmer, which sounds much less black metal and more technical (would that be a problem though? I don't remember if you like borderline prog black metal). And I don't really like Graveland, so I can't help you there.

You mean like, why people like it? I have no idea, I can't tell you that. I can tell you why I like it, and it's because of its noir vibe and the Nikita feel I get from it, specially from the first song, Yttligare Ett Steg Närmare Total Jävla Utfrysning; also the way the lyrics deal with a specific kind of depression (nihilist) and not the emotional like in Silencer or Forgotten Tomb, or most DSBM. But it's irrelevant in the end, since most people blatantly ignore the fact that Shining is a band that has released plenty of albums before and after Halmstad, and that, for instance, an album like Klagospalmer had much better musicianship and lyrical content.

I've aimed for something between Kveldssanger and "Masse Mensch Material" by Rome (check it out if you haven't heard it). I'd say Eversilent is a little less folkish and a little more experimental than Kveldssanger, though the atmosphere of the whole thing is similar :) and there's a female vox, no Garm, sorry :P

I respect that you liked it, but I thought it was a total mess. Wouldn't consider it a grower either, since most of what I appreciated of the band is gone and lots of stuff I've hated in other bands is now part of 'em. So yeah, I guess it's a shame.

Arcturus' Sideshow Symphonies, Vhernen, and maybe Verzívatar. It's not a common theme in black metal (space, that is), so it's not something easy to bump into. You should just check kosmische!

It was one of my favorite 2009 albums, Roká Hasa Rádió at least. Check the rest of Támas Katai stuff, their other albums are just as good although the production is different.
