Oh thank you! Although The Cure is definitely on my top three bands, I haven't listened to them much, I don't know why! My lastfm somehow scrobbled thousands of tracks ahah But yes, thanks for the recommendation! I love your music taste

Amenra are awesome. Good combination of sludgy post metal and screamo vocals. Remind me of this band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AM3f5sBQZc

Thanks! Got what I could find online. hopefully they will tide me over for the 6 hour bus journey to London on Wednesday. I'm going to try and DJ some of my own (trying to go for a trap/juke/house styled mixed with downtempo) music at this night my friend has started.

You posted about Jessica Bailiff in Grouper's shoutbox and I listened to her and she was fantastic. Thanks!

Ha! I do enjoy both of those bands (Suspiria guiltily - goth music doesn't get much cheesier than that, does it?), but not nearly as much as the others. Your library is a joy to behold - I'm going to have a lot of fun sifting through it. You seem like a good person to ask - do you know of any bands in a similar vein to Rome? I'm not much of a fan of neofolk, but there's something about the beautiful melancholy of Rome that really gets to me. I saw them last month here in London and it was just wonderful.

Justin have you heard Rat King (from AU, apparently there are a few Rat Kings out there)? They remind me somewhat of Slug Guts, they have that vibe. Also did you know JD from Slug Guts got together with some chick & did Ex-Con? Only a 3 song single out now, and not really like Slug Guts at all, haha, but you may like it! Let me know if you want links.

À propos de moi

I missed my 10 year last.fm anniversary! TEN BLOODY YEARS!!

The Cure - Disintegration is the greatest album of all time.

post-punk,
apocalyptic folk,
industrial,
black metal,
screamo,
post-rock,

ambient, aggrotech, darkwave, death rock, doom metal, drone, drum'n'bass, dubstep, ebm, electronica, emo (the real stuff), goth, grime, grindcore, hardcore, idm, indie, neofolk, noise, noise-rock, post-metal, power noise, punk, shoegazer. y'know, 'alternative'. and 'experimental'.

2013 was all about reaffirming my love for Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds and Skinny Puppy, and finally giving in to Crystal Castles.

2012 was all about Vatican Shadow, Wreck and Reference and Slug Guts.

2011 was all about Ulterior and Ash Borer.

2010 was all about Nitzer Ebb and old school ebm in general.

2009 was all about Rome, Dernière Volonté and A Place To Bury Strangers.

my twin obsessions over the course of the last few years however have definitely been Death In June and Current 93.

but my very hard to separate Top 3 Of All Time are Joy Division, Sigur Rós and The Cure. probably with Skinny Puppy and Mogwai rounding out the top 5.

of course this begs the question: where are Trail of Dead, Einstürzende Neubauten and Nick Cave (Bad Seeds and Birthday Party)? cos they all deserve top 5 status as well... i have no answer for this. and then throw in Sonic Youth and Cocteau Twins... WHAT ABOUT Echo and the Bunnymen?!?! Bauhaus? The Chameleons? The Smiths? i have no idea... *sigh* and of course my charts would suggest a place for Dead Can Dance, Interpol and Swans too...

special mention must go to The Sisters of Mercy - my first love! there are bands i love more now, but they were pretty much single handedly responsible for my discovery and love of alternative music way back in 1991.

my (erratically updated) music collection: http://rateyourmusic.com/~tenrapid

interests beyond music include my beautiful gf, my 3 magnificent cats, Arsenal FC, the martial arts (karate, kobujutsu, tai chi, muay thai, kung fu), yoga, photography, reading, single malt whisky, red wine, green issues and the great fookin' outdoors in general.

die hard gooner

DISCLAIMER: i'm most definitely a complete lefty liberal with strong socialist & anarchist leanings - any nsbm or other music associated with dodgy/right-wing/racist/homophobic/prejudiced politics which pops up here is because i like the music, NOT the ideology! as a rule i avoid nsbm anyway, but it is hard to tell sometimes... organised religion can fuck off though.
