I decided to post a journal entry describing my love of bands who write songs about themselves.
I think my love for self titled tracks comes out of the feeling I get that the track is an anthem for said band. I know I particularly love singing along with the songs when performed live and chanting "Iron Maidens gonna get you" with 20,000 people is a cherished memory. Though my love for the tracks extends before I've seen them live and is possible I like them as a representation of my love for the bands, and i just enjoy singing along to a song about one of my favourite bands.
I don't like self titled albums, I find the concept of naming an album after the band to be bland an unimaginative. But The Track Iron Maiden on the album Iron Maiden performed by Iron Maiden just has a nice repetitive ring to it.
The self titled tracks I admire for pulling off something which could turn out as cheesy as all sin.
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Love this song, to me it describes the bands persona and tells you about it in verse, I love it.
Rammstein - Rammstein
I think this song is more of a Rammstein chant and I can imagine marching down the street with 1,000's of people chanting to this track.
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Fantastic Black Sabbath song, full of variety and a great solo.
Hammerfall - Hammerfall
Similar to Iron Maiden in that it describes the bands persona but also has a nice Hammerfall chant in their also.
Hellyeah - Hellyeah
I think this is a case of the band been named after this song not the other way round. This song describes to me the atmosphere of a fantastic gig and just getting the urge to scream at the top of your lungs HELL YEAH! as the band performs your favourite song.
