Well don't mess with the early stuff before they had Phil Anselmo on vocals. It's basically the Abbott brothers trying to be like Poison. Once Anselmo showed up, they turned power groove metal and really started to make an impression. Start with the album "Cowboys from Hell" and work your way forward. My favorite album is "Vulgar Display of Power" - every song on that album kicks royal ass. Remember - it's not thrash, it's power groove, so it might take some getting used to, but once you get used to it, it's brilliant.

Yeah, I think my favorite metal song of all time is "South of Heaven." I REALLY like Slayer when they slow down - they have so much raw power. I like slow, chuggy metal a lot. Some of the older Pantera shit does this once in a while - there's a spot in the song "The Art of Shredding" that slows down and chugs so powerfully it almost makes me cry. Testament does this on the song "3 Days in Darkness," about 1 or two minutes from the end. Check it out.
