Thanks for inadvertently letting me know that the new Necros Christos is on spotify. Guess that's why I follow you! I wouldn't have checked otherwise since none of the older stuff is on there.

Unfortunately Pallbearer is not a great live band, they are way better on album. When I saw them at the Earl a couple years ago, they had just arrived at the venue and didn't have time to do a soundcheck and sure enough they sounded like crap. But they weren't that great at MDF last year. And yeah, it is nice to have a really good lineup instead of just headliner with unknowns & locals...Too bad about WITTR. I'll have a listen to it at some point to form my own opinion but I don't expect to like it any more than you do.

Yeah, I heard about that one. I'll be there for sure. How the new WITTR? I've heard mostly bad things about it.

The Serpent & The Sphere is an absolute masterpiece! So much better than Marrow, imo. The production is great, and musically it reminds me of the first two albums quite a bit. The acoustic passages are perfect too. I'm just so impressed with it after my first listen.

I somehow ended up in Tumblr again Life has been crazy busy and weird lately, my dad died last month so everything went on hold because I had to deal with that and help my mom with all the funeral stuff and all. How have you been?

examples of bands going from metal to a different genre. And then there are the bands who put out that one weird non metal record before going back to what they're best at.

My gods, if Friday weren't already great enough. Now Agalloch? There is no literally SIX bands that day that I absolutely fucking love. A band inspired by old Ulver, so it makes sense! I knew it wasn't going to be Emperor, and I knew it wasn't going to be Borknagar (wishful thinking!) Bands who used to play metal who don't now? Well, in addition to Ulver and Anathema, there's The Gathering, who went from doom/death, to female fronted gothic doom, to, well, I don't know what you would call what they do now, but I still like them. Maybe we can include Opeth, is the metal in their sound ever coming back? Have you ever heard of Empyrium? If not you should. They predate Agalloch and I bet they inspired them. They went from melodic black/folk metal to total neofolk with no trace of metal, but it's all fantastic. Green Carnation went from death metal to prog rock (A genre which I generally hate, but I've always liked them) and then their last album was all acoustic. So there are a few...

Oh hey, it's my turn to talk. xD I don't like anything I've heard of Ulver post Nattens Madrigal. Hell, I don't even like Nattens Madrigal that much. It was the first truly ugly black metal album I had ever heard and I wasn't prepared for it. Even now, in which the type of music I most prefer is ugly black metal, I can't get into it. It may have been revolutionary for its time, but I just don't think it's that good. Now Bergtatt, however, is godly. That is a fantastic album that I still listen to quite a bit. There are a few bands that once played metal and then left the genre that I still keep up with, and still call myself a fan of (The Gathering comes to mind) but Ulver isn't one of them. I wish MDF would hurry up and announce the replacement, I'm getting impatient.

Actually, only one other person told me about Ulver, so I wasn't told too many times! Not really a big deal to me, I had heard that they weren't playing any of the old black metal stuff anyway, so why were they even there? If they were going to play Bergtatt in it's entirety then I would be disappointed. My vote to replace them would be Borknagar. Not holding my breath, but wouldn't that be amazing?

You're listening to Saor. Awesome! Good stuff, innit? The new Kampfar is on spotify, but I didn't want to check it out there, I wanted to buy it, but there's no info on a US release date (Amazon wants 30 bucks for in import version. No Thanks) Finally curiosity outweighed waiting, and it is fantastic. Especially the song Swarm Norvegicus. Love at first listen....So glad you have your Ghost and Carcass tickets. Don't want to take any chances.

I'm not all that excited about At The Gates either, mild interest, but that's about it. Interested in Ulver too, but I don't really like what they've done once they gave up black metal, and who knows what kind of set they'll have. Candlemass is going to be great, you should be able to enjoy it even though you don't really know the material. I forgot about Pseudogod since they were a late addition. They're not bad. Bolzer does what Pseudogod does, they just do it better... Yeah, bought my Carcass ticket right from Masquerade. It was $26.50! Kinda sucks paying that much considering there's one band I don't want to see at all, but oh well.

One of the best bands of the whole fest is at Rams Head on Saturday, and it isn't Hooded Menace or Asphyx, it's Bolzer. (Never heard of War Master, and I don't like Pungent Stench). Bolzer is gonna be amazing, all they've released is one 3-song EP and they get booked at MDF. Hopefully there will be a full length in the next few months. They have a perfect black/death sound, so intense, the kind of thing I fucking love. Saturday as a whole is going to be a bummer compared to the other two days though. The only Edison Lot bands I really know and like are Unleashed, Sarke and Diocletian. The rest are unknown/don't care. Fridays Edison is mindblowingly amazing. Ruins of Beverast, Necros Christos, Mgla, Solstifir, Taake! Sunday is kind of meh until the end, when we get Candlemass & My Dying Bride...Yes, the universe should give you some good ticket karma! By the way, I bought my Ghost ticket on Thursday from Center Stage, only cost $1 extra, so the total was $21.50. Cheaper than Carcass!

I never would have sung karaoke at Dan's party last year if it had been public. As it was, I still didn't know most people there, but I was in a particularly bold mood and sang anyway. I had fun, even though I knew I was terrible. haha....Yeah, I've been meaning to tell you that much of MDF is sold out now, though if you really want to go,and can somehow find a way to go, you may be able to buy tickets from someone on MDF's message board. There are always loads of people who buy MDF tix then eventually realize they can't go, and will sell their tickets for face value or sometimes less. I wouldn't give up hope just yet.

À propos de moi

I reset my library a few years ago, and now I think I regret it. I did it because my "top artist" was listed as self-help guru Anthony Robbins, haha! A friend gave me one of his programs and every other freaking sentence was a separate track. Seriously, most tracks of the tracks were like 15 seconds long, so you can imagine how a few hours of listening to that accumulated A LOT of "plays". Back then you could not remove an artist from your library, so I reset it. It bothered me because that's not even music, and at the time I thought it embarrassing, but now I would find it amusing. So, Anthony Robbins, this "about me" section is dedicated to you and all the other plays I lost!
