High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine

I figured this album deserved a post about it.

It has only been out for a little while and I've seen tons of different opinions about it.

First time I played it, I had to check if I was listening to the right record...
The sound is very different than their previous work.
    - Matt's vocals are more prominent, not to mention different. Don't know if that's on purpose, or because of the producing.
    - it has more prog metal-esque riffs. Most notable one in the title track. When I heard that riff, I instantly thought of Mastodon.

But these changes don't necessarily (did I spell this right?) make it worse than the other albums.
Ok, it's not Blessed Black Wings or Death Is This Communion, but it's definitely as good as The Art of Self Defense or Surrounded By Thieves.

Other than that, it's still the soundtrack of total WAR, imo!

My ranking is as follows (and even then it's very close):
    1. BBW
    2. DITC
    3. SFTD / SBT / TAOSD

Cya'll later, I'm off to wreck my apartment while listening to Snakes for the Divine.

  • mood shifts - music shifts

    2 fév. 2009, 8h46m

everybody that knows me, knows i have moodswings (not in a bad way) and with that, my music taste changes around drastically.

not that i stop listening to some music entirely, i just shift to other things more frequently.

    currently:
Danzig - i'll always keep listening to this band

    Misfits - same

Enter Shikari - same, really sad that i had to miss 'em while they were here in Belgium

Johnny Cash - awesome singer, especially American IV and V, aswell as his San Quentin and Folsom Prison live recordings

The Smiths - discovered 'em not that long ago and i have been a big fan ever since. morrisey's voice and his cool english accent are cool.

Agalloch - this band has something for every mood. folk, doom metal, black metal, atmospheric/ambient. it's an awesome band, and i can't wait till i see 'em live in March.

Kings of Leon - this has to be THE band from 2008 (and even start 2009). it took a while for me to really get their album Only by the Night, but it's awesome!

Death Cab for Cutie - wanted to check 'em out for a long time, so i did a couple of weeks ago... really good band, especially the album Transatlanticism.

  • San Francisco

    6 avr. 2008, 9h26m

I got home from San Francisco yesterday morning. Did some shit, then fell asleep for the rest of the day because of the jetlag.
    And now i can't sleep =)

I'm a bit sad that the trip ended so fast :(
    As Nelly Furtado says:
"Why do all good things come to an end?"

    Anyways, it was really cool.

    Stuff we visited:

    -Alcatraz
    -Yosemite National Park
-Stanford University (awesome, weather, nice chicks, ... <3)
    -Napa

    and then also some companies:
    -Cisco Systems
    -Apple
    -EA Games
    -Adobe

We attended a Golden State Warriors game (NBA) and visited the San Francisco Giants baseball stadium aswell.

Other than that, decent weather downtown, too many bums, alot of burger-places <3

Was gay that we couldn't go out to drink cuz some of my friends weren't 21 yet. So some of us had to go buy beers so we could drink 'em in our room.

I gained about 4/5 kgs in 7 days so i now i have to hit the gym. Fattyboy :(

Bought some clothes and shoes, and also an iPhone (was only 399 dollars [which is 290€] + some taxes).

Anyway, i'm gonna try and sleep some more.
