So I watched "The Devil's Rejects" last night, there is something appealing about those Rob Zombie movies, and I mean something more than just his wife.
Anyway, he used a bunch of classic rock songs on the soundtrack and it reminded me how much i like some of those tunes and that i haven't listed to any of it in a while. So to remedy that, i created a playlist with some tunes that take me back.
Here's a sample of my playlist:
Freebird - love those birds chirping. And because some girl i worked with in a photo lab 20 years ago used to listen to a mix-tape that had this song first, i always think of -
Blister in the Sun - so of course it has to be next. Not quite classic rock, but certainly a classic.
Going to California - There was a great article about Led Zepplin IV in Uncut (some UK music mag my wife picked up for me) that talked about the creation of this great album. I especially liked the quote by John Paul Jones about the Runes they picked out for themselves and how unbeknowst to him and Bonham Robert and Jimmy had theirs custom designed, "Typical" was his quote.
And It Stoned Me - usually this kind of stuff is too slow for my taste, but i have a soft spot for Van Morrison.
Fly on a Windshield - A great tune by a one-time-great band. Unfortunately the magic didn't last and they turned quite poppy after a while.
Mother - It's tough to include a Floyd song because all the song i like of theirs feel so out of context when played by themselves and not in the original album, but i felt this song might actually fit in.
Dead Flowers - one of my favorite stones tracks, probably because of the cover Axyl did on some GnR album i can't remember.
There's more but i'm tired of typing. I think the only song on this list that was actually in the movie was Freebird by the way, but the vibe is there.
