this is the closest thing i have to a blog

i don't have anything to do for the next 6 weeks so i'll probably listen to every album i downloaded while i was on campus about 20 times over

here's what i like so far

In Flames - Come Clarity is In Flames' long-awaited return to, well, writing good music. Come Clarity is pretty good overall and has a few amazing songs on there as well (Dead End, Come Clarity, Crawl Through Knives). Dunno if I'll put it in my top of 2006, but it's a pretty solid effort overall

Norther - Mirror of Madness - Band I got into over the semester. It's like if Children of Bodom and Ensiferum got together and had kids, and then those kids formed a band. Which is pretty much what happened, from what I understand.

Skyfire - Timeless Departure - Similar to Norther but much more keyboard-heavy. In fact, this is the most keyboard-heavy non-power metal band I've ever listened to. Pretty fucking awesome.

Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt - Absolute classic melodic death metal. Shows that you don't have to be Norweigan to make incredible music. Definitely in my top 10 of... uh... whatever year it came out. Haven't heard the new EP yet (A Diamond for Disease), but I'm looking forward to it.

Anata - Under a Stone with No Inscription - These guys I just got into about, oh, 24 hours ago. That doesn't make them any less incredible; I've listened to this CD at least 4 times through. Really amazing tech-death that, unlike Necrophagist, actually sounds good.

Do whatever ya can to find the new Arsis EP. The title track honestly destroys about 90% of the stuff I've heard this year.

Sounds like a pretty ear-splitting mix. In a good way, of course ^^
