Hi Don, how's everything? Had enough of the cold and snow yet? I seem to have developed a twin obsession with the music of Kevin Ayers and Harry Partch just lately...!

I think I saw him maybe 4 or 5 times around 73-75. I was definitely at the Hyde Park gig, but missed out on the June 1 1974 show at the Rainbow which came out as an LP. John Cale, also on it and to my mind the most interesting member of the Velvets wrote 'Guts' about Kevin. Have a listen to it if you don't know it, the first couple of lines lay it all out really.

Did you ever see him play live? He was always entertaining and good-natured if a little inconsistent, probably depending on how much wine had been taken. At least his music was flexible enough to go with the mood, rather than seeing the same show every time. I hadn't listened to him properly for quite a long time before LFm came along, but in the last two or three years I have come to realise that there is nothing nostalgic about Kev, it's my love of his music that laid dormant for some time, but really it's always been there.

South asian music! Most excellent for relaxation! Copy paste the name and you will surely find a blog dedicated to that kind of music, have a look around. Hugs popa!

New (to me, maybe new new) album 'Slippery Rock' from Mostly Other People Do The Killing, well worth a listen if you fancy something a bit raucous

No thanks, I'd rather have another Universe.
Something a little brighter, if you don't mind

Frank Kuppner

If a yoke with one hole piercing its middle
were adrift on the storm tossed mighty ocean,
much more readily could a one eyed turtle
(floating floppily upward once a century)
find her head in the hole than any villain,
thrust into the hells for his frightful karma, come up a
second time to a human life and fortune.

Moral then; We had better make the most of it!

Stay away from that Humpty Dumpty, kids
He's a bad egg

Half-way up the mountain stands the half-built palace,
Supervised by the half-brother of the Emperor,
Who at present lies half-asleep in his garden,
Head cradled by one of a pair of lovely twins.

“For each note,” said Colin, “there’s a corresponding drink – either a wine, spirit, liqueur or fruit juice. The loud pedal puts in egg flip and the soft pedal adds ice. For soda you play a cadenza in F sharp. The quantities depend on how long a note is held – you get a sixteenth of a measure for a hemidemisemiquaver; a whole measure for a black note and four measures for a semibreve. When you play a slow tune, then tone comes in to control too to prevent the amounts growing too large and the drink getting too big for a cocktail – but the alcohol content remains unchanged…”

“I’m going to try an improvisation on Loveless Love,” said Chick. “That should be fantastic.”
