Hi Don, how's everything? Had enough of the cold and snow yet? I seem to have developed a twin obsession with the music of Kevin Ayers and Harry Partch just lately...!

I think I saw him maybe 4 or 5 times around 73-75. I was definitely at the Hyde Park gig, but missed out on the June 1 1974 show at the Rainbow which came out as an LP. John Cale, also on it and to my mind the most interesting member of the Velvets wrote 'Guts' about Kevin. Have a listen to it if you don't know it, the first couple of lines lay it all out really.

Did you ever see him play live? He was always entertaining and good-natured if a little inconsistent, probably depending on how much wine had been taken. At least his music was flexible enough to go with the mood, rather than seeing the same show every time. I hadn't listened to him properly for quite a long time before LFm came along, but in the last two or three years I have come to realise that there is nothing nostalgic about Kev, it's my love of his music that laid dormant for some time, but really it's always been there.

Very sad about Kevin. whatevershebringswesing and Bananamour, that's a good chunk of my adolescence too... I am having my own Kev-fest over here

New (to me, maybe new new) album 'Slippery Rock' from Mostly Other People Do The Killing, well worth a listen if you fancy something a bit raucous

Hi Don, so the new Scott Walker eh? Difficult to say, still getting used to it, think it takes some time, but surely my album of the year! Not as dark as The Drift but still heavy stuff. Think it`s good that he`s still around!

Marvellous. I love their album, it may be miserablist, but it's also oddly uplifting

Hi Don, I can heartily recommend Sam Rivers if you like your jazz a little bit skewed and occasionally veering towards the skronky without ever becoming an out and out brutal noisefest

More a tendency towards falling asleep with the headphones on! I like that feeling where the music kind of turns inside out as you drop off, but by that time it's too late to take off the cans so I usually get woken up at the point of strangulation some hours later
