Fri 9 Oct – Stone Temple Pilots

Redemption rocks. After being totally let down the first time I saw Stone Temple Pilots at PNC Bank Arts Center last year, I was happy to actually get to see them kick ass the 2nd time around. I made the trek down to Virginia Beach from DC to meet up with my buddy just in time to catch STP's set at nTelos Wireless Pavilion in Portsmouth last weekend. They opened up strong with "Silvergun Superman," which has about as nasty-of a riff as you can ask for, followed by "Wicked Garden" and "Vaseline." Most of the set consisted of songs from "Core" and "Purple." In fact, they only played 4 songs from "Tiny Music," "Number 4," and "Shangri-La Dee Da."

Here's the complete set list:

Silvergun Superman
Wicked Garden
Big Empty
Lounge Fly
Army Ants
Sour Girl
Interstate Love Song
Seven Caged Tigers
Sex Type Thing

Dead & Bloated
Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart

My buddy made a pretty good point while we were there. It's surprising how heavy they're riffs can sound seeing how it's just bass, 1 guitar and drums. The band was just as tight as when I saw them last, and I was glad to see Scott Weiland remember all the words this time. I gotta say though, he was a little more subdued this time. He was still doing his typical Scott Weiland-dancing, but he wasn't nearly as extreme or as aggressive as I'd hoped:

I managed to get a few pictures with my new crackberry. You can check them out on our Flickr feed .
