Okay I know I'm a little late here but I'm going to now do my annual.. "Best shows of 2006" list thing. Woohoo
Okay to start things off I'll start off with the first show I went to in 2006.Goldfinger
& Reel Big Fish
@ the Croation Cultural Centre on Jan 6th.Zebrahead
played too but they weren't that great. Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger were really good. Totally brought back memories of 8th grade. It was some good times.Coldplay
@ GM Place on Jan 27th.
I don't remember who opened but Coldplay were really, REALLY good. They normally put me to sleep (sad to say) but their live show was awesome. Lots of balloons, lots of lazers not to mention rad Johnny Cash covers to boot!Relient K
@ Croation Cultural Centre on Feb 24th.
Relient K is one of my guilty pleasures and they were really good live. There were a lot of Christian youth groups there and they knew all the words. But anyways, Relient K were good and deserve the attention finally.Mass Grave
, Poser Disposer
@ The Asbalt on March 10th.
So I've seen Mass Grave plenty of times but this was probably the best time I've saw them. Really tight, really fast, really good. Poser Disposer I have to say blew me away. That was the first time I saw them and they were tight. I was headbanging along to every song! I Am The Avalanche
, No Use for a Name
@ Richards On Richards on March 18th.
This was my first time at Richards on Richards and I was stoked. It's a rad bar/venue. Anyways, I Am the Avalanche were awesome! Better then Movielife
I have to say. We were all singing along to all the words, it was great. No Use For A Name were good. This was probably the best time I saw them seeing as though the last time I saw them (not at Warped tour) there was under 300 people there. This venue is more intimate with lots of stage diving. It was rad.
@ Monkey Pit (R.I.P) on March 26th.
Mass Grave were also really good this day. I think it was due to the fact Lenny (the lead singer) in between songs would take cigarettes out of people's hands and step on them. Haha. They were actually better then Born/Dead
who was also on the bill... but I couldn't say they were good or not 'cause I left halfway their set to see....A Global Threat
@ The Asbalt on March 26th.
This was my first time seeing A Global Threat and it was really, really good. Played all the old and new songs... but mostly old which was great. There was under 30 people there since this show wasn't well advertised and on the same day as Born/Dead but it was still really, really good. I've been waiting to see A Global Threat for a long time and it was well worth the wait.Thursday
@ Croation Cultural Centre on April 3rd.
Okay so I got really drunk before this show and missed all the opening bands except for Thursday. Even though I was drunk I still remember Thursday's set and it was really good. Didn't really hear much from their new album but that didn't matter since they played mostly old stuff anyways! So good!Fall Out Boy
@ PNE Colisieum on April 9th.
I know you're going to laugh at me but yes, I went to the Blackdogs and Underdogs (I think?) tour. It was at a big arena so it wasn't that intimate then the first time I saw Fall Out Boy (when they opened for Taking Back Sunday
! But I really liked the screens which showed music videos in between bands and their stage set up. They are really funny and entertaining even if Pete Wentz is a douchebag. The Adored
@ Plaza Club on April 15th.
This show was very good in particular 'cause I was the only one at that show that was there for The Adored and it was like they were playing for me because I was the only one in front of them watching. HAHA. They didn't play any songs off their debut "A New Language" but played their EP in its entireity. The Adored remembered me from myspace and gave me a shirt and CD for free. woohoo. HIV
, A Crow's Glory
@ Seylynn Hall on April 22nd.
This whole show was really, really enjoyable for a hardcore show. Haha. Revenge were really that day especially. I really like them even though their lead singer is a douche who just sings lying on the floor... but whatever.. R.I.P Revenge. The Cribs
, Franz Ferdinad
@ Pacific Colisieum on April 30th.
Okay so the first time I saw Franz Ferdinand was better and closer this was still good. The Cribs were rad and Franz Ferdinand were even better. Death Cab for Cutie
also played but they were only okay. I'm not really into them. The best part though was during Death Cab's set Ben Gibbard was like, "there are bears out on the loose, they escaped from the zoo" and during "Do You Want To?" Death Cab came out dressed up as bears, haha.Witch Hunt
, The Vibrators
@ The Asbalt on May 15th.
Witch Hunt were good, full of energy and excitement. Okay sure the Vibrators are old and in it for the money but who cares.. they still put on one hell of a live show! They played all the hits except sadly they didn't play Whips and Furs :(.We Are Scientists
, Arctic Monkeys
@ Commodore Ballroom on May 27th
Best show of the year. Okay fine, I'm kinda biast 'cause Arctic Monkeys are my favorite band... but still they were really good! It was well worth the extra 20 bucks I paid for my ticket off ebay. haha. I was really sick that day from what I remember and threw up during We Are Scientists set but when Arctic Monkeys came on it was like I was cured of my sickness. Haha. Seriously though, so good. First show of the North American tour with Nick O'Malley. He did a good job with that broken wrist. haha. The Futureheads
@ Commodore Ballroom on June 15th.
The Futureheads are so good live; they sound like what they sound on record. Plus they are funny. Good live band, check them out.Tranzmitors
@ Pat's Pub on July 13th
So this isn't my first time seeing the Tranzmitors but this is my first time but this time was way better then the first time because now they are more established and released 4 7"'s.. all of which you should check out. Anyways, they are good.Bouncing Souls
, Pink Spiders
, The Early November
@ Warped Tour 20062 on July 18th
So after all these years I finally got to see Bouncing Souls. They were so good and played lots of old stuff. Same with AFI except they played lots of new stuff which I disliked. Pink Spiders were good minus the screaming 15 year old girls who ruined all the songs. The Early November were really good as well. The other bands I saw that day were mediocre and not worth the mention. The Stills
@ Deer Lake Park on July 25th.
So this was an all Canadian concert (Sam Roberts
& Broken Social Scene
also played). It was such a rad venue and my first time there. It was outside in a park in Burnaby and the sound and atmosphere was awesome. The Stills totally made my day, soo good.
The Adored, Buzzcocks
@ Red Room on July 30th.
My second time seeing the Adored and they were good, real good. Buzzcocks were also very good. Yes they were one of those old bands that reunited for money but who cares. All the songs sounded the same as they did 25 years ago.. They played a lot of the older songs and didn't play a lot of new songs which was good. Best part was when members of the Adored and other opening band, The Strays
stage diving during Orgasm Addict.Clorox Girls
@ Video In on August 2nd.
I've wanted to see the Clorox Girls for a long and whenever the opportunity arrose I usually was out of town or busy but this time I ditched all my friends (I was supposed to go to the fireworks) and saw the Clorox Girls. I was singing along to all the songs and it was great. So catchy... soo good.Hot Loins
, Ninja Highschool
@ Video In Studios on August 8th.
Hot Loins are a rad Vancouver band that have been around for awhile but haven't got around to checking out until this show. They were good and upset this was the only time this year I got to see them. Ninja Highschool are a posi-hardcore-hip hop group from Toronto. Sound interesting? Well, it is. Sadly the lead "rapper(?)" was sick and did most of the set lying down onthe ground, it was really good and everyone was singing along. It was great.Limb from Limb
, Born/Dead, Subhumans
, Chuck Norris
@ Distort Vancouver Fest on August 25th and 26th.
So Distort Vancouver Fest is a rad festival featuring crust and hardcore bands from all around North America put on by two rad guys named Foat and Zach. This is the second festival they put together and it was just as good as the first one! Hellshock totally blew me away the first day as did Born/Dead the second day. The Vancouver Subhumans also totally got me stoked because of the energy they had up on stage even though they are all over the age of 40. Haha. Chuck Norris reunited especially for this show and even brought with them a friend called "Walker Texas Mickey" aka A 40 of Crown Royal which they all chugged on stage. Haha soooo good. The First Step
, Blue Monday
@ Video In on September 2nd.
This was Blue Monday's last show so hardcore kids from all around North America attended this show and let me tell you the venue was packed. It was so sweaty and the circle pit served as a fan, for real. Haha. All the bands played well, especially Blue Monday. It was sad to see them go, another Vancouver hardcore band... but hopefully the scene still stays gold! The Casualties
@ WISE Hall on September 14th.
Okay so I don't really like the Casualties (I was there for their opening band, Wednesday Night Heroes
) but I have to say that I really enjoyed this show for some reason. I guess it was probably all the memories of grades 9 - 10. Haha...Circle Jerks
@ Croation Cultural Centre on Oct 4th.
So the Circle Jerks were amazing in the 80's are still are amazing now. Circle Jerks did an awesome set full of all old Circle Jerks songs plus they did Nervous Breakdown and Fix Me by Black Flag
.. which I enjoyed very much. Pennywise were good with the exception of big fat jocks squishing me into the barricade. They did a whole bunch of covers... Minor Threat
ones if I do remember correctly... soo good! The Killers
@ Orpheum Theatre on Oct 8th
The Killers album Sam's Town is one of the best albums of 2006. Having said that, of course the Killers were on my list of best live shows of 2006. This was my 3rd time seeing them and one of the best times I've seen them. They never dissapoint (even if they are a bit overrated.)
Chuck Norris, Defect Defect
@ Video In Studios on Oct 14th.
Haha this show was awesome. Chuck Norris came out in hockey gear to the Hockey Night in Canada theme song. I swear this band cracks me up everytime I see them play. Defect Defect were crazy as usual and Regulations were awesome! So good live it's ridiculous.Iskra
@ The Creephouse on Nov 4th.
I've also wanted to see Iskra for a long time and I finally did. They played two shows, an all ages and liscened one at the bar. I managed to go to both and I have to say... the all ages one had so much more energy and was so much more fun! Iskra were great and played for a long time! So good!Margaret Thrasher
@ The Creephouse on Nov 11th.
So this wasn't my first time seeing Maragaret Thrasher this year but this was the best show I saw from them this year. Perhaps it was cause it was a small venue or I could finally see them up close? haha whatever, still good.Get the Most
, Sinking Ships
@ Seylynn Hall on Nov 18th.
This was a good show, loved all the bands but these two bands stood out the most. Jack's Mannequin
, Panic! at the Disco
@ Pacific Colisieum on Dec 2nd.
Haha another guilty pleasure concert of mine. I loved Jack's Mannequin a lot. Another band that I liked for a long time but didn't get to see live until recently. I'm so happy to see Andrew McMahon so healthy and happy! Panic! At the Disco were actually really good. Better then the first time I saw them in July... I think it was the stage show and set up because their songs are just.. eh... Since they only have one album their songs get kinda tiring. As I said before, bands with only one album shouldn't do headlining tours... unless your the Arctic Monkeys. haha. Seriously though, since they only had one album they played covers by the Beatles and Queen which a lot of the crowd sadly didn't reconize and also sadly Panic! At the Disco did a horrible job covering.. but whatever.. Brandon Urie sure can dance! ahaa.Autistic Youth
, Defect Defect
@ the "some house" on Dec 31st.
I don't know if this counts as 2006 but whatever. This show was more of a party since it was new years and lots of people came to party since there was no other parties happening. Lots of booze, lots of kisses, lots of things I don't remember. What I do remember though is the bands. Defect Defect were awesome; Colin is so crazy. We counted down the end of the year with Autistic Youth and it was great, those 18 year olds sure know how to bring the rock! haha. I'm lame.
Thats it. haha I missed a lot of rad shows too due to my wallet getting stolen.. so my ID and concert tickets were stolen but whatever... hopefully 2007 will be a good year for shows like this one was!
