Ahh, glad you're giving them a go. Great song that one - they played it live when I saw them a few weeks back. I'm not overly familiar with that album yet... I've basically been starting at the other end. I have given it a few spins though, just because it seems to be their "popular" one. That said, I've read a couple of interviews with the band saying they don't like it... too many novelty songs. I'm sure I'll get into it like I have all the others I've tried.

that said, I recommend you give Propagandhi a go. They are more punk than metal, and you may well like them. Their lyrics are some of the best I have ever heard. Try the track 'Note To Self' and see what you think.

I am indeed in a deep, dark metal obsession. But never fear, I always come out of these for a breath of fresh air every now and then!

Agreed! I actually love the crap out of the Emotional Rescue album, start to finish. It's never critically acclaimed at all, but I reckon it's fantastic.

Ahahaha! Yeah. The lyrics are pretty creepy mate aren't they : D Hope you find those albums you want. I also like to trawl charity shops and car boot sales for old vinyl. Found many a gem over the years. Been searching out a reasonably priced original vinyl copy of " From The Lions Mouth " for a while now. They can cost up to £165. Only got the reissue at the moment. Unlike the original. It has no gatefold sleeve http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/From-The-Lions-Mouth-Sound-2012-Vinyl-New-/380702228513?pt=UK_Records&hash=item58a39f0021. The Armoury Show? Yeah. Not a bad band mate. Got a copy of " Waiting For The Floods " in my windows library. Going to have to scrobble them soon : ) Cheers for getting back to me Dave. Catch ye ltr man! : )

Righto, here's my list of tracks inspired by Lou Reed. 1. Nico - Evening of Light (check the change in her pre- and post-Velvets solo albums) 2. The Stooges - 1970 (Lou-inspired lyrical imagery) 3. Bowie - Queen Bitch (duh) 4. Joy Division - Atmosphere (the title says it all) 5. PiL - Theme (PiL allowed the influence of the Velvet's atmosphere to creep back in, instead of just the noise influence found in the Pistols music) 6. My Bloody Valentine - To Here Knows When (pure noise / pure beauty) 7. Gang of Four - Anthrax (The Murder Mystery anyone?) 8. Can - Mary, Mary So Contrary (Father Cannot Yell and this track have an almost carbon copy Velvets sound) 9. Primal Scream - Skull X (The Scream are big fans, this track captures the Velvets vibe nicely) 10. Icehouse - Boulevarde (Iva is a big fan, this first album has Reed's sound and lyrical style all over it)

Waiting for the Floods is a good album man. I really "got" it this time. McGeogh makes it what it is, I reckon.

Yeah, great song man. Really dark, brooding guitar sounds. I'm giving the whole album another listen now too...

Yes, I did know that, he does a great job. Just listened again, and man, he really shreds it. Rival's Fripp's work on Scary Monsters.

Yeah, i agree Dave. They most definitely have that Stone Roses sound. Glad you liked the track. You should check out their whole album. Great stuff mate!! : )

Well, I hope you find good things... I shall have a closer look at your listening profile and might send you the odd recommendation :)

  • bevester

Indeed I do, though I'll give you two songs that display different sides of The Weed. You'd probably have to start with Daddy Long Legs which is a stellar example of their rifforama and one of their all time best. Also, try Acid Rain to get a taste of their more mellow/spacey side. That said, knowing your taste I think that you may really like the variety on their Mumbo Jumbo album from 2000. There's rocky stuff, mellow stuff, poppy stuff, psychedelic stuff... they were trying to find where else to take their sound. Try a song called I Think About You from that album to see what you think.

What do you think of the new Bowie, by the way?

    mai 2013
  • bevester

Yeah man, I read a Bowie biography and it was fascinating, so that of course put me on the bender. Funnily enough, I never listened to the new album until yesterday. I heard the first single a few months back and didn't think much of it, so never gave the album a try. Turns out I was wrong, it seems really great. Catchy yet interesting. I think it'll get more plays around these parts...

Hey Dave!! I`m doing fine mate. Thanks for asking. Hope you are well too? Not really enjoying much springtime here at the moment : ( Our Scottish weather is all over the place as per usual. In the mornings it can be warm sunshine. Then by the afternoon, it`s rain and howling winds. We actually had some snow here yesterday would you believe? It`s " four seasons in one day " weather! : ) Hey!! No need to thank me for the sounds. Just thank the band " My Dad Is Dead ". It`s them that play the music ; ) Glad you like them though. They are a top band! Catch ye ltr man and i hope the weather is better where you are? Obviously it will be. You lucky *!*#*!##**#! ; D

Amen! So Sad About Us is an amazing song with single written all over it. I also LOVE Keith's I Need You from that album... wondering how much of it he actually wrote though - it's too good. Got my kids loving Boris The Spider and Silas Stingy... we listen to them on the way to school each day at the moment!

Oh man, Budgie are amazing!! I will send you some. They have a great balance of crazy heavy riffs and beautiful acoustic mellow passages. And they have a good dose of humour in their lyrics/song titles.

What can I say, you've got me hooked. And because of their long songs, 272 plays equates to many hours of Can goodness.
