digging back to the past

this is a written attempt to dig down to the dark past of my musical preferences, what i used to listen to as far back as i can remember and up until this very evening! at this exact moment i have a firm belief that things will pop up from the dark side of my brain, repressed memories of music i used to listen to, but now kind of dislike, heh he!

well, i'll start by coming clean on several of my childhood musical favorites from about age 8 to 11;

eurodance, cappella, 2 unlimited, twenty 4 seven and the likes, found on several mega dance albums with other similar dance artists! very beneluxish dance music i 'rocked' to a whole lot! this period would last some years, 1990-1995!

my first electric six string experience was Bryan Adams and his summer of '69, and the so far, so good cd! 1995 or 1996, mixed with the dutch dance music!

some months later, new school, new friends, new technology (internet), and of course new music! 1996-97, .mod/.s3m music (more like advanced midis), amateur 'electronic' music made with different programs i don't remember the names of now, but i remember one file i think i still have; sandman.mod! a mod made by some guy as a tribute to Enter sandman! that last fact i found out about two months after i had been loving that mod-song! a new era opened, rock liberated by Bryan Adams, i now bought and borrowed every metallica cd i could find! i even remember buying the re-load album on its release date, november 17th, 1997! they would actually be the only band i listened to until somewhere mid 1998 when my friend convinced me to buy a motörhead album, and i did! the first motöralbum i bought was overkill and it hellarocked! eurodance was banned from my stereo!

i'll speed this up a bit now! spring 1998, i believe it was, i found iron maiden! and what a rush, bought nine of their cds one sunny day of spring! i also bought my first deep purple album some time during those years, and it had one or two cool songs, but nothing mind blowing like creeping death
not too open minded yet, he he! 3 years in the norwegian equivalent of mid school (years 7 to 9)

and then, school years 10-12, new school, a new batch of friends and a new environment! i met one guy from another school who gave me a long list of bands i had to give a try, system of a down, slipknot, kittie, machine head and a few others! tough stuff i thought back then! however, later that same year of school, spring 1999, i heard rammstein for the first time, and their herzeleid cd, which blew me totally away, and i've been a huge fan since that day! forgotten were the new "metal" music (soad, kittie etc), rammstein was the future!
also i can add my first rap encounter to give me a positive experience, tungtvann! Late 99!

machine head wasn't forgotten tho, and i remained a fan! the follow up cds from kittie, system of a down and slipknot were extremely disappointing, and i ditched them for good! a brief period of amen and mindless self indulgence followed, but burned quickly out.

late 2000, early 2001, i have a car and i need bass thumping music! the first and best pick was Fragma and Alice Deejay! shortly followed by a mainstream mix of dance music! this combined with Rammstein, Metallica, Iron maiden and machine head kept me going for some time! add a small pool of different songs from different artists, and we're there (especially fear factory and böhse onkelz who lived on)!

a mainstream dance/trance radio station played one song that'd rock my world up side down and back, Until the end of the world! 2003, the world had seen the demise of napster and winmx and the likes, and filesharing wasn't all that huge anyways (compared by today's standards)! add that with the lust to find music by a band without worldwide popularity, (if you're old enough, you'll remember) was extremely hard!
followed by periods with judas priest, deep purple, moonspell, HIM and dimmu borgir! Turbonegro came to stay with me, and still does! seen some times live now!
others include kaizers orchestra, the kovenant, slayer and in flames!

well, now i realize i'll just list up the rest, cos explaining every circumstance and stuff would take me too long and make this a boring read!

well well, the diversity is huge, and i can't bother to list up any more artists, but i've been very influenced and grown to love a diversity of music! even after papa i've bought some cds by the rolling stones!

i realize now i could've continued describing and writing all throught the night and most of the day tomorrow! well, i feel one more bit complete now, and one lesser bit bored! suitably ending now with come into my world!
