I don't know if I ever said I wasn't into podcasts...just never thought about them...always seemed like a hassle, and I don't like listening to people talking at me while I'm trying to work. But that one sounds cool...I like Bourdain. I'll have to check it out.

Yeah I was listening to a LOT of Deerhunter and Brightblack during my Marin contract/sojourn...something about that place brings out the restive hippie in me. I fucking LOVE Cryptograms...might be up there with Daydream Nation as an album of such complete completeness....you know one of their members died in the middle of it? Powerful shit. Brightblack can be a little turgid for my tastes, but it works when you're driving over to Novato every day. They recorded their last album via a solar powered studio hookup.

I lurved your lovejournal blog when it was still working. I suppose you're probably very busy or uninterested nowadays to come back to it, but are there any recommendations you might give me on where to find music as amazing as the one you posted in there? I can't find any mp3 blog or whatsoever out there with beats as tight as the ones on moerex.

Foals are interesting-Indie Pop (Think Bloc Party) mixed with Math Rock & Afrobeat influences-the album is full of ideas/perhaps a bit hit & miss-but I think they are a band that will refine their sound imho.

Also on the afrobeat/indie crossover theme-are you liking Vampire Weekend/Yeasayer/Foals?

Sounds good I'm going to check it out-have you picked up Atlas Sound's-Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel? Also a similar vibe to Panda Bear imho.

Oh yeah! I know Steely Dan's music better than any other band on earth. I recently proposed teaching a class on them! Thanks for the shout, come by Surya Dub this weekend if you can.

À propos de moi

You may know me via my music blog, Moebius Rex. Currently (but not permanently) on hiatus.

Also, in regard to my music listening habits--generally I listen to my music archives on random shuffle, which often results in a rather bewildering RLT playlist. There is no method to the madness (except of course, when there obviously is).

My "Eclectic Score" (as of 10/14):

Take your top 20 artists. For each of these artists, collect the top 5 similar artists. The resulting number of unique artists is your eclectic score. If the score is small (extreme = 5) your musical preferences are very limited, and if it is large (larger than 80, extreme = 100), then you have an eclectic musical preference. You can compute your own score here

My eclectic score is currently

97/100

My "Super Eclectic Score" (as of 10/14):

Take your top 50 artists. For each of these artists, collect the top 20 similar artists (where the artist itself is the #1 most similar). The resulting number of unique artists is your super-eclectic score. You can compute your own score here

My super-eclectic score is currently

707/1000
