of course. but it's toxic to draw boundaries so quickly between people who disagree with you, no?

introspection is one thing, but expressing yourself is another. you learn more when you talk with people who aren't as likely to be offended. just a back and forth with no emotions attached tells you a lot about the other person, but it doesn't mean you have to feel immutable contempt for them because of that.

maybe it does. but most people wouldn't even care enough to propose something contrary to what another person is saying. when someone exhibits even the most minute amount of authority people cower and go along with that sentiment so you can feed them as much shit as you want. that's not relevant to our conversation; i mean in general. i can see the dismissive behavior prevalent with people. however when you say what's on your mind i think it's truer than keeping opinions to yourself. nobody will learn from being silent about things they care about.

okay, i'm sorry about shitting on your book, you really took it to heart. obviously i know my cursory look on the internet marketplaces won't get me any insight on the book, but that's just how i felt at the time. in reality i have nothing against it or the author, or your taste in art, in that case, and i forgot about the whole argument after the last message i said last week or so

it's just incredibly wooden prose, i don't like it. but whatever, if that ringing "true as fuck" is enough, so be it

it was on page four or something like that, i didn't skip to the middle of the book. if it starts out with some off the wall shit like that i'm not interested in reading further. but it's good that you enjoyed it.

it's no surprise to me that we're at ends in terms of literature; our seminal discussions about music were even more vitriolic. -____-

oh, it's not word salad? i just quoted you two pieces of the first handful of pages. tell me exactly how many pages i have to read into the book in order to get some sense/enjoyment out of the content. because reading that is like a lingual mess and i find it hard to believe reading a 320 page book in that style is rewarding in any sense. and what else could you possibly have meant questioning my understanding of Borges' Spanish? i understand it as far as any experienced reader would without being fluent in the language. and i can read Russian, which is the only language besides English that i'm fluent in. although stylistically it's infinitely more beautiful than English, it's by no means an easy read since i don't live in Russia and rarely have to read cyrillic type.

"What is this 'thing?' All is movement, all is flowing. How stupid is it to speak of the 'mind.' There is body; there is mind; they are mixed up together." ... "You can buy blue soap in the grocery on the corner of 8th Street and 4th Avenue."

i understand it just as i'm sure you understand patchen's mythology. there's nothing wrong with translations, how can one help being born in a certain country and wanting to experience others' works? there's no time to get through the English canon, let alone be fluent in Czech, Spanish, Italian, etc. just to satisfy someone's impression of how you're able to "understand" material. reading books is one thing, but if someone asks you to talk about the book, the question should elicit endless discussion.

certainly there is a basis. the internal struggle and views of authors comes across in their work, each character holding weight and each word purposefully arranged. that dialogue on the fourth page is wooden and almost cringe-inducing. borges, on the other hand, achieves mastery with his words and brings to life something so immense, kafka might have nightmares about it. and capitalist how? aren't good things worth having? something that a man has put his soul into, and not just drug-induced banter that takes up shelf space? still, it's all just opinion.

it's just pages of loosely-strung word salad that can't hold a light to the genius of russian literature which i'm focusing on right now.
