• Seeking Praise and Worship recommendations

    17 mars 2007, 18h09m

Please recommend anything that you think I may enjoy or albums that you enjoy yourself. I'm pretty mellow and don't like most of the Christian Rock (I don't like the "rockish" Casting Crowns songs even) and Rap stuff (not really into rap). What I dislike about a lot of Christian music is when God or Jesus is not mentioned directly and it turns into a generic love song to You or Him. When I'm singing along and want people to know I'm singing about Jesus, you know.

I'd appreciate any suggestions at all. :)

    Artists I like:

The Blackwood Brothers (I own Rock of Ages)
Casting Crowns (I own Lifesong and Casting Crowns)
The Katinas (I own Lifestyle, Destiny, and The Katinas)
    Kuna Sepulveda
Ray Boltz (I own Concert of a Lifetime).

    Individual songs I like:

I Can Only Imagine by Bart Millard
You Are My King (Amazing Love) by Billy James Foote
Shout To The Lord by Darlene Zschech
I Sing Holy by Joel Engle
Draw Me Close by Kelly Carpenter
    Above All by Lenny LaBlanc
As The Deer by Martin Nystrom
I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever by Martin Smith
    Go Tell by The Martins
The Heart of Worship by Matt Redman
Agnus Dei by Michael W. Smith
Here I Am To Worship by Sonicflood
God of Wonders by Third Day
He Knows My Name (I Have A Maker) by Tommy Walker

  • He rules my current musical existence

    23 jan. 2007, 22h37m

    Amos Lee

So I've recently fell in love with this guy.  I found him via Ray LaMontagne. He's very chill ... known in some circles as the "Male Norah Jones". If you listen to him you'll notice the similarites aside from the fact that they are both on Blue Note Records and Norah plays piano on some of his tracks.  I love the instrumentation of his music where it doesn't sound so produced.  He writes some pretty good lyrics and I just haven't been able to stop listening to him since I "got" his albums a week ago.  I think he's worth checking out if you like some chill music. He dominated my weekly chart last week and will again next week. My favorite songs include "The Wind", "Careless", "Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight", "Seen It All Before", "Arms of a Woman", "Sweet Pea", and "Long Line Of Pain". Great artist who you all should check out!

  • A Sad Day

    2 nov. 2006, 15h26m

Drove by Tower Records yesterday and saw a gigantic sign that reads "Out-Of-Business-Sale" and everything must go. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with their bankruptcy issues but I wouldn't be surprised. Plus, the Towers that I'm talking about is the one in Keeaumoku (near Ala Moana) and that was the place for music. I remember when I was a kid ... saving up my lunch money and catching the bus there to buy the latest Israel Kamakawiwo'ole or other Hawaiian music CD's. Nothing made me sadder ... until I actually went into the store. The mood was so ... dreary. The selection was bad (being as they're not restocking), some aisles were empty, and the customers were generally sad. I'm going to miss Towers. It was my place. Been a customer for ten years.

On a brighter note ... got four CD's at 30% off. hehe

    Mr. A-Z
    The Ultimate Collection
    Live at the Wetlands

Michael McDonald was the spur-of-the-moment buy but it was the first I ripped and I'm enjoying it. Goodbye Towers!
  • Robert Randolph blew my little brain

    28 oct. 2006, 4h49m

Note that this is pretty much a copy/paste entry from my MySpace blog so check that out for the full effect. I have Three songs available for listening on my page and on my blog.

    MySpace Blog

Checked this album at the suggestion of my boy Dustin and it really did blow my mind. Listened to it while doing homework Wednesday night and the energy just kept the juices flowing. I almost got distracted from doing my work because I was just so excited about the music. My first impression of the songs were "Fun-Kay!". You don't hear much funk nowadays. It's Funk, R&B, and Soul all in one man. I tell you. This is one great album. I'm going to jot down the lyrics this weekend so I can sing along.

Streaming music on the site right now is "Blessed". Below is a video of my favorite track "Homecoming".

Robert Randolph & The Family Band

  • My 20,000th Track

    3 oct. 2006, 4h03m

Was thinking about what track to honor as my 20,000th scrobbled track. I figured that I'd make it simple. My favorite song of all time ... even though its not even near my Top 50 Tracks chart. It's an Eric Clapton cover and I much prefer this to the original. But I may be biased because of where I live. Download it and check it out. I wouldn't recommend this for nothing.

    Wonderful Tonight by Simplisity

    Go me!

  • The inevitable has occured

    26 sept. 2006, 4h30m

My favorite artist, John Mayer has finally claimed his rightful place at #1 on my charts. My obsession with Katharine McPhee and Carrie Underwood couldn't hold him off. You can credit the release of Continuum which has totaled John 623 plays in the last two weeks. Holy crap is right. said that Kat was #1 and Carrie was #2 but John has always been #1. I think he is the most talented artist of our generation dude. Seriously. Continuum is a truly amazing album which I definitely recommend to anyone reading this. I have my favorites but the amazing thing is that every song is a favorite to someone. Meaning that it's an album full of great music. I'm Gonna Find Another You has already cracked my Top 50 Tracks list (35th place with 64 spins). I'm sure other songs from the album will make the Top 50 very soon. I won't be surprised if John reaches 2500 before Kat or Carrie reach 2000 (Kat is currently at 1900 and Carrie at 1704). I truly am obsessed with the Mayer.

I mentioned that my Top 10 doesn't truly represent my Top 10. I don't have a Top 10 because I couldn't decide on it but I do have a Top 5 list. lol

    5) Katharine McPhee
    4) Michelle Branch/The Wreckers
    3) Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
    2) Carrie Underwood
    1) John Mayer/John Mayer Trio
