9/21/2008 EPIC Hanson CONCERT REVIEW
AKA If Taylor Hanson Told You To Jump Off A Bridge…Would You?

As to the title of this thread, well, if you've ever been to a Hanson show, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If not, I can explain it pretty easily. You know how at some concerts, the band will try to draw audience participation out? Either hand waves or claps or something similar. At most concerts, you get maybe about 50% who do it. And about half of those are doing it halfheartedly. And sometimes, when the band tries to make you do something, hardly anyone at all does it, and then theres the little awkward moment where everyone looks around.

Well, Taylor Hanson is the KING of audience participation. He has us wrapped around his little ivory tinkling fingers. At a Hanson show, if you aren't following along, you would stand out…because everybody else IS! Although, most people are too intent on the guys to notice what the heck is going on around them. The concert venue could be on fire, but as long as your view to the stage isnt obstructed, you aren't likely to notice. Last night we clapped, we "na na na na na na"d we "build it up, build it up"ed, unbelivably we quieted down so we could hear (gasp), "we woah oh oh"ed, we mmmbopped, we "won't go down"ed, and then at Ike's request we Na Na Na Na'd and belted the Hell out of chorus to Watch Over Me. (story on that in the setlist notes…it was the BEST part of the concert…I cried.) We did more hand claps. If Taylor had said, "allright, in this next song, I want you dance and jump and punch your neighbor in the eye, well, I'm pretty sure my face would be bruised black and blue. But we'd have all still been singing along while we beat the crap out of each other. :D

So this was the best. concert. EVER. Clearly.

It began with 1st opener Everybody Else. It must be said that I freaking love Carrick. They sound even better live. :D

The Veronicas were good, too. I like them very, very much…but thats not why you're here. :D

Due to HOLY CRAP HUH? Hanson wasn't running late! Last year, they took the stage at 10:30. This year? 9:30. They must have forgotten to set their Hanson Time watches back for Daylight Savings or something. Or maybe they're still on Africa Time, and were really like 12 hours late, which was to us an hour early? Either way, lightning struck. :D They all looked amazing. I was right in front of Ike, and his little vest was LOVE. Tay had on a white shirt that says "I took the walk" in red letters. :D And Jeans. There was excellent jeanage. Zac had his hair back for…oh…about 4 or 5 8 counts…before he'd already headbanged that ponytail holder to the floor. ;) And the setlist? Pure win!

1. Something Going Round ~ Always great live. Followed by Tay's talk (#1 about Africa) :D

2. I Want To Take You Higher (cover) ~ Seriously Sexy. Tay was piano humping. :D All three boys were spot on!

3. Been There Before ~ One of my fave songs. There was much NaNaNaNaNaNa'ing.

4. Follow Your Lead ~ "We have a brand new song for you now. In fact, tonight is the first night you can get this EP, so you guys will be the first to have it." Yeah. It was new…but most everyone around me sang every damn word right along with him. Hanson fans + youtube =LOVE! Enter Tay's persistant audience participation bit. :D I so love that boy.

5. Where's The Love ~ "We played you something brand new…so here's something you should know from way back." I admit, about two chords into the song, I pretty much went batshit insane. But so did everyone else, so that was okay. :D

6. Great Divide ~ Dude. Ike rocks the Hell out of this song. My voice is already starting to go. Also, I was expecting it at the beginning of the set. It's more fun when you're already into the groove.

7. Penny & Me (Acoustic) ~ Another OMG moment…Taylor didn't forget the lyrics! It is impossible to not groove to the song…no matter how many times you've heard it!

8. Georgia (Acoustic) ~ This song, acoustically, is the BOMB. My fave song of all time. MY SONG! <3

9. One More (Acoustic) ~ Here they shushed us up a bit…so everyone could hear. And DUDE was it ever worth hearing. Taylor's voice! GAH! Somebody had better have gotten a good copy of this for youtube, because I had chills all over my body. I'd never heard this one live, but live AND acoustic. There are no words.

10. Where Did It Start (Zac Solo) ~ The acoustic version of this song kicks the studio versions butt. The studio version is lovely, but stripped down, it is so unbeliavably beautiful. Zac hits the same soul piercing notes in this song that he does in The Walk. SO GORGEOUS.

11. Black Hearted Woman ~ cover Again with Tay and the sexiness. srsly.

12. Blue Sky ~ Woah oh oh! Woah oh oh! Fracking awesome, and again…piano humps. Oh, to be that piano.

13. Hope It Comes Soon ~ Another of the new ones. I love it so much live, and the EP version is good, too!

14. A Minute Without You ~ Yeah. I flipped the hell out again. SO MUCH FUN! Another of my faves. :D

15. Running Man ~ I admit, I've not been the biggest fan of this song. But it was SO GREAT live. Zac <3

16. Mmmbop ~ And the crowd goes wild(er)!!!Do I even have to say it? No? Good, because I have no voice today. This is part of the reason.

17. Can't Stop ~ I was so glad they played this again! Got it at my last show, LOVED IT. FAWESOME.

18. Use Me ~ Okay. You may not believe this…but it was hard not to jump Ike during this song. (Bill Withers cover, btw) He was freaking sexy as hell when he was rocking this jam. Again, Im hoping for YouTube love, here.

19. This Time Around ~ Que mayhem on the genad level. Also, I'm pretty sure we did the "Won't Go Down" bit for a very long time. It could have gone on forever, I was in heaven. ;)

20. Watch Over me ~ Okay. So this was pretty much the highlight of the whole show. I mentioned that I'm right in front of Ike, yes? Well, he sings the song, and then in the middle he stops to say something to the effect of "I wanted to play this song tonight, because a year ago, at this very same venue, I sang this as the encore. I started feeling bad and had to go to the hospital. But I'm here tonight, because I got it fixed. And I'm back, and I want you to scream it with me at the top of your lungs!" And we did. And if there was anyone there that wasn't crying, well then they weren't standing anywhere around me. Again, somebody BETTER have gotten video of this to put on youtube.

Encore

21. Coming Back for More ~ Dude. This song is so very very fun. And yes, Taylor made us do the handclaps. How adorable is he anyway. But this song was fun fun to dance around to!

22. Lost Without Each Other ~ SCORE! THE MOST FUN SONG EVER. And yeah, Taylor did the thumper leg thing. DUDE.

23. Great Divide Chorus Acapella ~ Thus completed the BEST concert of my entire life. My boys, acapella. The only thing that could have made it better is Change in My Life. But hey, I'm not complaining! :D At least we have an awesome version of it now, too!
