Monster Beach Party
The first interview I ever did, pre-CPAOD, was with Dark Shadowz. It was published in Colorado Music Magazine. I was 19.
The first bar band show I got kicked out of after being carded was also Dark Shadowz. ;) I used to hang out and talk to John, and went to some all ages shows by other bands with them (Foetus, Pigface, etc). John and I interviewed Martin Atkins together (my 2nd interview... it was supposed to be in Denver's Wax Trax's zine, something or other went wrong and then I started CPAOD and included it in the 1st issue).
But I wasn't old enough for their shows, except the Halloween one at the House of Dark Shadowz.
Eventually I turned 21 and danced drunkenly at many of their shows, sometimes as often as once a week.
Not long ago John Kerper (JK, Motem, N-Tro-P, etc) mastered his Monster Beach Party cassette onto CD and sent me a copy (he was also the sound engineer on the original release). That inspired me to scan the cover, scan a crappy Dark Shadowz pic I took when they opened at the Dr. Pain show (I still only 20 by then, but it was gory porn with dangerous gadgets for all ages and I was involved with the show anyway), and rip mp3s and write out their ID3s.
I also wrote the band bio, with Cyber-Psychos AOD #7 as the source. My Memorium to John Graves was in that issue, and it included parts of the Dark Shadowz interview that hadn't appeared in the CMM edit.
So now there are pages for Dark Shadowz and Monster Beach Party on last.fm ... with one whole listener (aka me), maybe someone else will turn up. Too bad I can't add the tracks and albums to the band page.
