What's so super rad right now:
ECSTATIC PEACE! is a seriously rad label. They just released something new from Sunburned Hand of the Man. On this album they collaborate for a second time with Kieran Hebden. This basically means that I'm really excited to hear it. I'll keep you posted. Other stuff Ecstatic Peace! has released includes everything from White Out to Andrew W.K., Tall Firs to Richard Ramirez. They put out awesome noise and great mellow indie rock and party music. It's great that they keep up such a diverse roster, it breeds cross-contamination! Plus, they have a winter sale on now so you may want to check out their website.

This whole "cold wave" business has got me really intrigued. I don't know if it's some unimportant sort of concoction by those people who love to micro-organize. It seems legit though and there are a couple of good compilations that run down the basics:
Cold Waves & Minimal Electronics Volume 1 will be available February 22nd. The compilation is put together by New York's Wierd Records and Angular Records. If you follow my blog, you'll know what a huge fan of Wierd I am. Compounded with my fandom of 70s/80s post-punk and minimalism, I think it's got to be good.
B9 Bis: Belgian Cold Wave 1979 - 1983 was put out by Les Temps Modernes Publishing in 2007. As the name suggests it focuses on Belgian music, which is great. It seems to encompass both the industrial and minimal electronic sides of what cold wave is (I'm guessing).

CJSW is having it's 25th Anniversary Party next weekend! More than 25 of Calgary's best bands are playing including Wagbeard, Mico, Tinderbox, Chad VanGaalen and more! It's going to be crazy. You can find out more on facebook.
