Oh wait! I just realized you have already listened to them... my bad! Do you have any recommendations? I'm very open to anything.

Nice! I'm seeing them next month and my tickets just came in today! If you like loud, listen to Les Rallizes Denudes's "77 Live". It's an hour and a half long adventure of long, noisy tracks that seem as if they're going on forever! Ahead of their time, if you ask me! :D

Happy new year to you too, Corinne :) I'm doing good here, thanks. How's life in Australia going?

Can't think of a more sublime cover, shortest 9 minutes ever. Cowboy Junkies' version of Sweet Jane comes close. But pretty much anything Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk lend their voices to elevates it, they do the best versions of I Started a Joke and Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me as well. Re Tom Waits, I've always seen him as sort of a conceptual artist, find him more interesting/entertaining than emotionally engaging. First got into him because I thought he was hilarious in Tommy The Cat by Primus, and the main reason I'd want to see him live is for the banter. Whether that helps or not, I dunno. :)

Tom Waits is too depressing for ya, but you'll happily play Low, a band that most people would rather slit their wrists than listen to. ;) I'm amazed I'm still here after all these years of listening to them. But yeah, seriously. I Could Live in Hope is mesmerising, does things for me I can't describe...and the Down By The River cover. Been using your listening history to find new stuff, have bookmarked Yellow Swans and Natural Snow Buildings for further exploration, like 'em. Also, been listening to the new Mark Lanegan and not really getting it yet...which is a first. Sounds like early Screaming Trees. Think it'll have to let it sneak up on me.

hah, my "garden", that's cute ; ) hey two bands I must recommend you: Shock Headed Peters and The Grinning Plowman. they're somewhat obscure I guess but your charts look very 'inviting' to their sounds, as it were : )

I take it back about Mule Variations...more depressing than I remembered.

Never occurred to me that I might like Waits because I'm a depressed drunk, but you may be right. Never found myself any more miserable or driven to drink when listening to him, but I do enjoy his tales about miserable drunks. Then again, I'm not really a huge fan of some of his pre-weird crooners...fav album is probably Real Gone, and not really for the lyrics but the grooves, his voice and Marc Ribot's guitar playing. But apparently that's an acquired taste. That or Bone Machine. Have you heard Mule Variations? Enough weird to be entertaining, with only a few maudlin ballads or blues songs.

Yeah, I was going to say it's something I'll never live down, but thought at least I'm alive to feel that way, so what does it matter. It wouldn't bother me so much if I had ever seen him live, but never did. Wasn't here in Melbourne when he was actively playing shows, and passed on my chances when I did move over here from SA. Dead or alive: Jim Morrison would be a good one. Hero-worshiped him once upon a time. But I'd take Tom Waits. Can bullshit on a dime, and has only ever been out here once, I think. Would travel overseas to see him, if he ever happened to do any more shows.

Canada's great. Finally got a job and stuff, so things are going good. Yeah, Slowdive would've been fun to see, but I still haven't gotten tickets, so we'll see what happens! :) Everthing ok down under?

The new album is great! My favorite since Bubblegum actually. But nothing beats that beast though. His latest efforts was ok, but didn't really do it for me, but Phantom Radio is different. I love the more electronica (ish) approach, the synths (some of it sounds almost darkwave/post-punk inspired to me, which is awesome!). Favorite tracks so far are Harvest Home, and No Bells on Sunday (love that song!). What about you? Heard it yet? Love it? Hate it?

Good! I was worried that in a 2 hour plus show they would. They played 11 songs at ATP, five These Immoirtal Souls songs (King Of Kalifornia, Marry Me, The Story Goes, My One Eyed Daughter, Crowned) and 6 Rowland S Howard (Pop Crimes, I Know A Girl Called Jonny, Dead Radio, Exit Everything, Autoluminescent, Golden Age Of Bloodshed). How much do you love JP Shilo now? From the original tribute show in March last year (while I was in Wales!!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQDa7K_rd80

Mostly coincidental :) Wasn't in the mood for Big Black or Black Heart Procession.

How was Pop crimes? Tell me but don't tell me. Adelaide sold out and I'm free on Sunday now so am having regrets. Seeing it at ATP won't be the same as a 2 hour + show where they may play ave maria.

When you put it like that. I had tickets to Rowland Howard's last gig. Chose not to go, knowing he'd been seriously ill. Stupid. You originally from the UK?
