I agree with all of your comment. It's not as good as the first two but I still love it. You also named all of my favorites. Fire and the Thud in particular is really amazing, I love the last few minutes. A lot of the songs build up to amazing endings- the Jeweler's Hands also.

Oh and speaking of emotional connection... looove Neko Case. Her music speaks to me as much as some of my all-time favorites. She's really amazing.

Yeah, only half of the album was actually new for me, but it's interesting hearing studio versions finally. I like the album a lot, but it doesn't hold the same emotional connection that I have with her older albums, I guess. I likeor love all the songs though, really. Dance Anthem has always been a favorite.

I also feel weird about having a photo of myself in general on this site. I'm in a funk.

I know.. I feel paranoid that I am so instantly recognizable on a website. That, and all my comments... also people keep automatically assuming that the photo is mine, and not a cover by Smog... but... the boat/water picture is so pretty.. what do you think?

I was skeptical at first also but now I mostly love it despite the few I never clicked with. I guess it's more technically 'uneven' than the other two but still good. I would recommend the EPs for sure.

Hey, how's it going? I really like the album. At first listen, it's not as instantly great as their first two albums, but the beauty of it really shows itself over multiple listens. There are a few songs I'm not fond of, like the closer and 'The Magpie', and the chorus of 'The Ancient Commonsense..' really doesn't live up to the verses. I either like or love the rest of the songs though, with Dirt on Your New Shoes and Oklahoma/Don't Hide Away being my favorites. And South China Moon. I dunno, it has a lot of great tracks it's hard to choose. It's really a nice work, but nothing they do will live up to their 12 EPs. All the songs on those are just absolutely amazing, and have such a phenomenal sound. Each EP is brilliant in its own way, and the songs on them encompass a beauty that their albums do not reach (despite the albums being great, the EPs are almost otherworldly in comparison). end rant..
