You could say "nebenbei glaube ich, dass du ein Arschloch bist" ... and I think you wouldn't be that wrong with it... "dabei" has several meanings. it can be a simple fill word like 'therby' or in "Ich bin dabei" it means "I'm game" but it also can be temporarily like "While you're doin' this" is translated as "wo du gerade dabei bist"...
