Oh SKYE! What a lovely, what a nice girl! We could take you for a diva with your red dress with feathers, your so special hairstyle, your bewitching sight and your hands waving slowly like a priestess. For sure not, it could be so easy for you. But you go down from this highness with your eternal smile, this childish laugh and you talk to us as a friend. You make us sing and laugh with you. “Do like my outfit? I made it by myself. Why do you laugh? Of course: it’s true!” Ah little princess we need you in this world. Oh, I was forgetting the most important ... your' re : The Voice.
It was a classic set tonigh, beginning with “The Sea”, ending with “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and between these nice songs of the last album “Blood like Lemonade” that seems yet as an intimate part of the show. Just like this “I am the spring” as a duo with Skye and Ross Godfrey on guitar. This guy, Ross, seems so relax with his slide guitar, but he knows how to end a song in apotheoses with an awesome epic solo. Thank you Ross too for these nice compositions. And so then brother Paul? A young boy took his place on the DJ set during the whole show. We just saw him appearing on the stage at the end of the encore. Mystery.
A special mention to the light show, this one perfectly emphasis the show.

24 nov. 2009, 22h02mJeu 19 nov. – Massive Attack, Martina Topley-Bird
The show is perfectly « pro ». The sound is great: both massively powerful and delicate, we can hear distinctly each voice, each instrument. It is high but it’s don’t hurt. Our 2 fellows 3D and Daddy G start their engine with a new track Heartcliff Star from the still awaited new album Heligoland. 16 Seeter introduce the fragile voice of Horace Andy in the middle of terrifies and tortured sounds. There is this contrast between a very dark ambiance and the wall of dazzling led lights behind. The light show is really innovative, both sober (no more than 2colors at once) and invasive (subliminal sentences, quotes, costs, local newspaper extracts in our own language). Musicians appear just as silhouettes. The exception is Marina Topley Bird under a spotlight in a very colored kimono and a blue mask on her face. 3D’s voice is bitter, incisive; Daddy G’s one ghostly and shadowy. Risingson is suddenly enlightened by the wave of the choir sequence Oooonnn! as a sigh of relief. The melancholic Future Proof begin with this insistent light bubbles of keyboard, join by a soft guitar and whispering voices, before an electric outburst, the thunder fade out and light bubbles are still there as a peaceful rain. Martina Topey Bird is now on her branch singing a very plain version of Teardrop. Angel is Horace Andy’s hymn and will be nothing without this mechanical bass and the terrible guitar riff. Safe for Harm and Unfinished Sympathy complete the artwork with another facet represented by Deborah Miller’s deep soul voice and unsettling sensuality. Exciting percussions on this song completed by Deborah’s dance with a tambourine. This is not the end: Marrakesk, one of the new tracks, a long 10mn piece, a highlight in this set, an heavy rock beat, a 80’s keyboard riff, an organ in the background, a distorted guitar full of effects. The lightshow begins with a dotted line globe zooming in and out before a flood of red flashes with multinational logos and flag growing with the intensity of the sound. Splitting the Atom seems very pale after that with Daddy G, 3D and Horace Andy clapping their hands. The last encore is a classic Karmakoma.
So what’s wrong? People says that the band seemed not very involved and cold. May be the end of a long tour? The audience was cold and without reactions too. Some ones think it was too electric, too much guitar, others criticized the playlist: too much well known songs. This is a very eclectic inspired music. Some people seemed lost on their side. The concert hall was just like a pit, with no less than 1,80m height people could see anything! Some ones seems to be there just to write an sms with their cell “I’m at a Massive Attack concert” (true anecdote). Yes I was too but… I enjoyed.

31 jan. 2009, 10h03mAnother Magma’s gig, another Magma’s configuration.
Exit: Antoine Paganotti, Himiko Paganotti & Emmanuel Borghi. It’s a very cruel loss.
-Emmanuel Borghi was a discreet but a mainstay member of Magma from 20 years. His repetitive and insistent electric keyboard were involved in a large part of the trance.
-Himiko was Magma’s grace. She was shining brightly apart from this dark universe. She was a real member with her own charismatic personality struggling.
-Antoine Paganotti was (for me) THE singer of Magma, the very best. His large odd’s register, his virtuosity. His presence on stage. We have seen Christian Vander giving him his seat behind the drums. He was a virtual successor for Vander.
So may be after this cruel deception, I was not in the best mood to enjoy the concert.
Introducing of the newbie’s :
-Bruno Ruder on keyboards
-Hervé Aknin on vocals
-Benoît Alziary on vibraphone.
Stage : For those who don’t know yet, when we discover Magma’s stage, we see a tree with cymbals. The drum kit on the middle of the stage is rounded by huge cymbals sticked up very high. This is the heart of the stream. The bass stand is just near as an extension of the main organ. The choir is on the backside on the right. The newness is a massive vibraphone on the left.
Playlist : The concert begins with a break to get a complete silence in the place.
-Two entirely new tracks (no named): It’s very soft, jazzy, with a chorus where Stella Vander sings in solo. They are some lyrics (rather simpleton) in French. It seems built to capture a largest audience. Regular fans are confused.
-A long suite : Emëhntëht-Rê : this track is under construction said Vander. It is a composition with some extract from Köhntarkösz, Hhaï, Rindè, and Zëss.
-For the encore the band was thinking about a gospel a ballad or … something strong. The unanimity of audience is clear. It will be a strong stuff: De Futura!
For those who followed Magma with the last configuration, it seems that a part of the coherence has been lost. New members seem to be just actually as satellites. Vander tries to get the synergy with these newbie’s, he drums and sing as never, Stella move to the front stage, Isabelle F support the new male singer: but that’s the fact (for me) there is a hole inside Magma. Happily, during “De Futura” based on the duel drum / bass, we could enjoy the heart is still alive and beating waiting for a new awakening.
Antoine, … we miss you!
