retiring old "about me"

z'about time… i think i wrote the thing in 2005. here's the text for old times' sake.

Quasi-audiophile gadgeteer that loves lots of music. Jazz, symphonic, hip hop, r+b, alt-country, 80s, but mostly lean toward indie/shoegazer.

Always lookin' for new friends with similar interests that like to post/write journals.

Long version:
grew up with 80s new wave (probably have every duran duran lp/ep/remix 12 inchers and japanese imports). graduated to listening to the great Live 105 radio station in SF (though it turned to shit at '92 or so). but that station introduced me to new order, the smiths, the cure, echo & the bunnymen, etc etc., all the greats of the mid-late 80s, and then into the early nineties, ride, lush, charlatans, stone roses. got a lot of music back then thru reading lime lizard. SF was great for seeing shows. Ned's Atomic Dustbin, nine inch nails, kitchens of distinction, catherine wheel, charlatans UK, the pixies…

went to college in LA, where I grew my taste for shoegazer/indie. saw mbv at the whisky a-go-go (or was it the troubador?), which was one of the best shows i've ever seen. also saw slowdive a couple times. saw the kitchens down there, too. saw medicine a couple times… KCRW in LA is still my favorite radio station ever, even though I don't live there anymore. (Thank goodness for the internet and radio streaming.)

so my high school and college days were when my cd collection grew the most. i do love all types of music (Jazz, symphonic, hip hop, r+b, alt-country, 80s), but my tastes even now are mostly rooted to the early to mid-nineties indie/shoegazer stuff.

for some reason, whether it was moving or having friends with different tastes or getting married or having a kid (or some combo of all that) my music buying and research slowed down considerably.

anyway, trying to change that by listening more to kcrw on the internet, indie pop rocks on somafm.com, makin' scrobbler friends.

whoa. that was a lot.

oh yeah. recorded some music many moons ago (pre-demo quality, if anything). hoping to get back into that at some point. http://www.last.fm/music/Ufu
