Have you heard the band Broadcast's score for Berberian Sound Studio? It's an evolution of that band's already cinematic sound toward an actual soundtrack. It builds on their tendency to fuse to a Morricone's lounge to 60s Brit-psychedelia in all their recordings. There's some obvious Goblin and Frizzi influence there, too. I haven't seen the film, but it sounds a lot like De Palma's Blow Out.

Never heard of him, but half of the orchestral scores on films I've been disappointed with. I think the work with big musical assembles is a thing of the past. Consider the last Academy awards: Santaolalla, who I hate, but is effective and has an economy of rsources, very minimalistic

Crash: wonderful sondtrack by Howard Shore. Do you remember Communion's ost by Eric Clapton? Very hard to get on the net, and very similar: metallic guitar notes, not bluesy, very un-Clapton, do you have it?

Though Tarkovsky always will be better, Sokurov's movies are very similar. Tarkovsky said of him that he was his disciple. ;-)
