Failure playing Art in the dress rehearsal for The Apocalypse

The Peach Tree, aka. Angus Maiden, possesses a voice that is the antithesis of auto-tune; the sounds you hear are what your average untrained 25-year old male larynx emits. There is plenty of failure here, he doesn't hit the notes, he can't sustain, doesn't project, and his attempts at different styles of singing such as death metal screams are pitiful. Yet in the voice's raw, natural, unprocessed essence there is an expressiveness that reveals a beautiful honesty akin to the lyrics and message of The Peach Tree.

Art is the pursuit of a perfection never to be attained. Through the past 15 albums and EPs The Peach Tree has attempted to show his inner world to the masses, and has failed on many accounts. The failure is what keeps him creating. The moment he produces something truly perfect is The End. Most natural deaths occur because a person has achieved everything they needed to in this mortal coil. When a consciousness dies a world dies, and Angus' world though still far from ending is nevertheless headed towards that inevitable, mortal demise. His whole life is a dress rehearsal for The End Of The World, the arrival at Perfection, in Nothingness, when the single consciousness that perceives the Universe subjectively ceases to be, and thus does the World cease to be.

Andy Warhol and the Pop Art movement, as well as the DaDa movement, showed us that anything can be Art. An exhibit in a modern gallery could be a glass case filled with kitchen cutlery. Once you label something as art it becomes art regardless of its content. The message here is that Art is in everything and we merely need to see it in a different context to appreciate it.

Is Angus' failure at expressing what he feels deep inside then, a form of Art? The first few words of the album title has two meanings: "Failure playing Art", as in a personified failure performing the role of Art, a metaphor for an elaborate showcase concealing something that is in fact amateurish. But it can also mean "an unsuccessful attempt at playing, or being involved in, this thing called Art". In the end, is it Art simply because Angus says it is, or is it indeed a true failure in its weak delivery? Is there such a thing as "bad Art" and "good Art", or do these polar opposites fade away as long as a message is conveyed? We can debate these things endlessly, but who cares because The End is Nigh, and this is the dress rehearsal for the Final Act. Ragnarok. Armageddon. The Apocalypse.

    1. Gravity Assisted Reincarnation (The Artist Looks Down On The Sea)

The track’s title says it all. Suicide, the ultimate failure. The vocals on this intro track are designed to either intrigue or deter the unsuspecting listener. Heavy rock with flawed singing, and intense lyrics. This song contains the first mention of the angels Gabriel and Mikael, who both feature on later tracks from the album.

The scar on my arm where you drank my Blood
And the ball in my palm of an energy flood

A scratch and a kiss and a broken heart
And we fuck and we fuck and we're back to the start

But you flinch when I grab and you turn when I lick
And your head on a pike just a ball on a stick

Up and down toe and crown jump around jump around
These are sounds from the damned so be warned or be Found

You were born to destroy so take off your veil
And prepare the assault on the Lord Mikael

While Gabriel watches the witches behead
A thousand times three from your neck ran the red

And you bled bled bled 'til The Dawn turned to ice
And time stood still while they stole your Innocence

And contorted, distorted your Heavenly Sin
Into razor sharp knives flung around at a whim

Through a Curtain of Dark into Shadows of Chaos
God lies dying in a fiery playhouse

Where children of The Night cast their curses to eons
Of storm-ravaged journeys and castrated peons

For slaves are we all to Eternal Desire
The Passion we breathe unto funeral pyres

That this way and that shall forever lay direly closed
To black hearts poised to dampen The Fire inside

    2. Gonna Fail As A Lone Wolf (The Artist Looks Up From The Herd)

Coupled with "Gonna Try With A Little Help From My Friends", this track sets up the notion of failing as an Artist, by doing it as "A Lone Wolf" and setting oneself apart from "The Herd". The lyrics, however, mention "Drifting along like the rest of the sheep", admitting that it's actually kind of cosy in the herd. There is also a tension in the title invoked by mentioning wolves and sheep together.

    how did it begin?
    and how does it sustain?
why does it manifest inside our brain?

    why does it exist?
    and how does it portray
those in a state words can't convey

and it cuts to the bone when i see you weep
i sink like a stone in a dying sleep
i'd pick up the phone if i wasn't so weak
but i drift along like the rest of the sheep

i sing along like the rest of the sheep
i get it wrong like the rest of the sheep
i'd pick up the phone if i wasn't so weak
but i drift along like the rest of the sheep

and it cuts to the bone when you weep and weep
i would pick up the phone but i'm way too weak
and i sink like a stone in a dying sleep

    how do i explain?
    and why do i refrain?
see how i melt in acid rain

    3. Gonna Try With A Little Help From My Friends (Corrientes And The Peach Tree)

This track follows on from and is partnered with "Gonna Fail As A Lone Wolf". The assistance of Corrientes in creating this track makes it anything but a failure, and expresses The Artist's desire to share experiences and creativity in order to "Try" for Perfection. Much love to EV for helping with this track.

Did you ever think to yourself "That's just not right"?

There's a battle, going on inside of my head.
It's holding me down, can't move ahead.

It's kind of funny how Life can turn so fast.
Trying to find a way to live without past.

Do you ever think to yourself "That's just not right"?

Did you ever think to yourself "That's just not right"?

    4. The Colour Of Your Eyes

A re-recording of the first song ever written by Angus.

That wasn't what I meant to say
When I spoke to you the other day.
I meant to tell you, "Goodbye".
I meant to tell you the reason why

    I am headed for a dead-end,
And right now I could use a good friend.

But you wouldn't give me the time of day.
You wouldn't even remember the colour of my eyes.

That wasn't what you should have said,
When you whispered in my ear.

You made me love you more than anything.
And I still see it everywhere,

    The colour of your eyes.

    5. The Donkey-Headed Adversary Of Humanity Addresses The Artist (Trying And Failing To Be Evil)

The D.H.A.O.H. appears courtesy of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. The idea is that it is not Humanity's place to embrace Evil. There must be an adversary for there to be positivity in the world. The D.H.A.O.H. addresses the artist who is at once "invoking" this Evil force with his music but also attempting to "add a disclaimer" by insisting it is not his voice but the D.H.A.O.H. itself speaking through the music. This creates a bit of a paradox. This a complicated concept, if you don't get it it's probably best to just enjoy the tune.

    "You wanna be Evil?
Well then try and be like me."
    -The human

"I am the adversary, and I must remain the adversary.
I am not yours to embrace. I am not yours to invoke.

So what the fuck are you doing?
You're embracing Evil? You're invoking Evil?
I am the adversary, and I must remain the adversary
    Of all humankind.

I am not yours to embrace. I am not yours to invoke.

So what the fuck are you doing now?"
    -The D.H.A.O.H.

    6. Getting There

Moving in the general direction of Perfection with still plenty of failure.

    'Cause something isn't right,
But I'm doing the best I can.

If you help me through the night,
I'm happy to lend a hand.

And I'm doing it on my own,
But I'm happy to be your friend
    With your feelings still unshown,
    Unshown until the end.

    Unshown until the end.
And I'm doing it on my own,
But I'm happy to be your friend
    With your feelings still unshown.

    'Cause something isn't right,
But I'm doing the best I can.

If you help me through the night,
I'm happy to lend a hand.

    And something isn't right,
But I'm doing the best I can.

If you help me through the night,
I'm happy to lend a hand,

And I'm doing it on my own,
But I'm happy to be your friend
    With your feelings still unshown,
    Unshown until the end.

I'm doing it on my own
But I'm happy to be your friend
    With your feelings still unshown,
    Unshown until the end.

    Unshown until the end,
    Unshown until the end,
    Unshown until the end.

    7. Is This Art Yet?

We're half-way through the album, so is it Art yet? This track features the most intense lyrics on the album. So, has a message been conveyed? Or is it a failure in its delivery?

She was more than I could take in my state.
She was more than I could take in my state.
I have to go or I'll be running late.
At the corner of the station where I wait,
This is a trap, I am the bait.

Then she kissed me in the passenger seat,
A bliss I thought that I'd never meet.
A happiness I'm happy to greet.
This is the butcher, I am the meat.

    The sweetest meat.
    The darkest blood.
    The kindest smile.
    The world ends now.

    Ends now.
I said the world ends now.

    8. Ragnarok Is A Nicer Experience Without Vocals

Getting closer to Artistic Perfection, and thus Ragnarok, by intentionally leaving out vocals. A much nicer experience.

    9. Third Eye Scrutiny

Featuring a snippet of Terence McKenna's lecture "Eros and Eschaton", this track is about Unity of Nature.

    10. White And Black (Mikael)

The first in a three-part series that closes the album, invoking the two Angels and one Demon that accompany Angus in his spiritual travels.

This first part, Mikael, is preceded by the title “White and Black”. Here Angus is harking back to a time when things were simpler. The trippy music is necessitated by the powerful act of invoking an Angel, and briefly mentions the demon Nemesis.

Ultimately the song is a discourse with the Angel Mikael, among many things apologising for “spitting his name” in the first track of this album.

    Thyr, Mir, Arash, Doya
    Earth, Air, Fire, Water

I call the Angels down from above.
I summon Demons up from below.

Mikael, I'm sorry, I let you down
I spat your name and I stole your crown.

I sold my soul to the devil,
And made you watch me revel
In lost delights and fancied flights
But now I'm back, the field is level.

I offer you my open wrist,
    I'm sorry, I'm sorry I can't resist.

Accept my blood and please forgive me
I want you by my side, stay with me

    Stay with me.

    11. Purple, Green And Orange (Gabriel)

The longest track on the album, this many-part progressive song tells of the glories of Darkness, yet insists Darkness only reigns in a bi-polar system, and that “There is more to Life than Black and White. There are Colours.”

By the end of this track a discourse has begun with the Angel Gabriel, begging him to “Take me back, to a time before White and Black.”

In contrast to the discourse with Mikael, this song shows a yearning for something more complex than White and Black, as the Artist finds himself opening up to the Colours “Purple, Green and Orange”, a way of looking at the world in triplets rather than as a bi-polar system.

Those who hold a bi-polar view of the universe:
    Choose Dark over Light.

It's the obvious choice. Darkness is comforting.
It is tranquil. It is The Womb.

Whilst Light is harsh and relentless,
    Aggressive and stark,

Those who follow the path of Darkness
    Cross no-one.

They lurk quietly in the shadows, and deal
Only with what comes their way.

Hidden and silent, they do not confront the world,
But sit back and watch the madness unfold
With a slightly amused turn of the mouth.

Those who follow the Light feel compelled
To force it down everyone's throat.

"The Dark are lost, and must be saved.
    Ultraviolet aggression must purge all
Who do not follow the way."

Vehemently, they will stop at nothing
Until every last shadow is erased.

Yet this is impossible in a bi-polar system.
The presence of Light creates Darkness
In the corners where it is absent.

In a bi-polar system the choice is obvious:

It is easy, it is accessible, and it feels good.
    It feels right.

Yet there is more to Life than Black and White.
    There are Colours.

I see Purple, Green and Orange.
    It's a start.

    Darkness (It feels good)
    Darkness (It feels right)

    Gabriel, Gabriel
    Gabriel, take me back
To a time before White and Black.

Gabriel, let the colours fortify my mind.
Oh, Gabriel, let the colours fortify my mind.
    My mind. My mind.

    Gabriel, Gabriel, Gabriel.

I am so tired. So tired.
    Gabriel, take me back.

    12. Party All Night (Nemesis)

As a fun closer to the album with a “Bonus Track” feel to it, the addition of invoking the Demon “Nemesis” gives this upbeat song a sinister edge. Angus’ partying days are long behind him and the only time he gives in to temptation is when the Demon in him takes over. But it doesn’t matter if he fails, because it’s the end of the world. The Apocalypse.

    I think I'm feeling alright.
Get the feeling we're gonna party all night.

The Peach Tree - The Ghost Of Muses Past

I recorded this album in less than two weeks. Prior to setting to work on it I had reached a real low point involving over-consumption of drugs and alcohol, psychosis, anxiety and general depression. I decided it was time for a real turn-around. I started a detox and spent a lot of productive time reflecting on my life over the past few years; weighing the good and the bad, thinking about past relationships and my own personal struggles. As always with me, this flood of emotions and cognitive activity presented itself as music. This album is by 1000% the best work I have ever created and I am enormously proud of it.

Grab a free 320Kbps zip of it at

...and please, take the time to sit down and listen to the whole thing. All of my music is free, and all I ask is that you listen.

    1. Absorbtion

    2. Reflection

    3. Jane

    Her name was Jane.
She had all the perks of a regular girl,
But she saw canyons in the bedsheets.

She had rainbows coarsing through her veins,
And the needle stole her soul.
    Her soul, her soul.

    4. Drink It In

    I love your body
    I love your body
    I want your skin
    I want your blood

    I'll take your soul
    I'll take your soul
    I'll take your soul
And drink it in, drink it in

    I left you staring
    While I walked away

    I left you staring

    I'll never need
    To follow the hallowed way

    The hallowed way

I've chosen the path of darkness
    And I'll drink it in
    I'll take your soul
    And drink it in

    Drink it in
    Drink it in

    I'll drink it in...

    5. The Dark Side

    Just listen...

    6. Hold On

Oh, lord you've got to... hold on
Oh, lord you've got to... hold on
Oh, lord you've got to... hold on to your dreams,
    Before they wake you...

Oh, lord you've got to... fight on
Oh, lord you've got to... fight on
Oh, lord you've got to... fight on for your dream,
    Before they take you...

Well, it's hard to get along,
When you're lonely, in a world of love.

And it's hard to be strong,
When you're holding on to a world of pain.

    But hold on...

You ever thought that there was something missing?
I had it once then I lost it in the alley.

Now, I feel alright but I don't feel like I used to,
I feel alright, but I don't feel like I should.

Now every night I buy a bottle o' whiskey,
And every night I down a bottle o' blues.

Every night I wonder if I'll call you,
And every night the phone rings, and it's you, love.

I don't know why I've gotten so unused to
The sound of words coming out of my mouth.

I don't know why I've gone and abused you...
You were my life, my lover, my green-eyed come-down.

Now I feel alright, but I don't feel like I used to.
I feel alright, but I don't feel like I should...

Hair cut, new shoes, soft spoken, no blues.
He walk, he run, he gather, no noose.
She try, she try, she try, cut loose.
She try, but he won't, he won't, he won't
Break away, break away, save the pain,
No blues. Break away, break away, hair cut, no noose.
No noose, no blues, hair cut, no money.

    Hold on,
    Hold on,
    Hold on,
    Hold on,
    Hold on.

    7. All The Perfume Of Arabia

    Would you dance with me,
If I said there'd only be
    You and me
    On the floor?

    Would you read my thoughts,
If inside of them you saw
    Your reflection?

Could my hand caress your face,
If I told you you might taste
    All the perfume of arabia?

    Under where you stand
    Is a tangled broken land,
    But there's room for two.

    Look into my eyes
That have seen such distant skies.
    I could take you there...

    So why would you wait
    Another lonely day,
    Tearing your heart away?

If you wanna be with me,
    I'll set your spirit free
    For another day

    If you close your eyes,
Do you ever see what lies
    Beneath your dreams?

    When you listen close,
Do you ever hear a ghost
    Whispering in the wind?

If you opened up your mind,
Do you ever think you'd find
    What you're looking for?

If you opened up your heart,
    And tore your hate apart,
    I'd be waiting...

    8. Leaves You Needing More

    When everything is falling apart,
And the message from my heart
    Is passing over you.

And the things you want so bad
    Take over everything you had,
    Leaves you needing more.

All the sounds you've never heard
    Are swirling 'round your head,
    Seeping into you.

All the girls you never kissed,
Oh, so much you have missed,
    Falling to the floor.

    Passing over you,
    Seeping into you,
    Falling to the floor,
    Leaves you needing more...

    9. Mirages

I tried my best to see through your eyes,
I tried my best to understand.
    Changing mirages in the desert,
    Shifting colours in the sand.

I looked inside, and saw emotion,
But what it was, I couldn't tell.
Above the sky, beneath the water,
A ragged pearl inside a shell.

I tried to run, and I stumbled.
I tried to walk, and I flew.
You left me nothing here to stand on,
And I am falling without you.

Love is tender when moments like these come and go.
I'm on a bender, I dont which way I should turn.
Love is hard when it burns in a tar blackened lung,
But love is all that I need...

All that I need is a rest from your burning desire.
We get up in the morning and day turns to night.
All I wanted was your body with me in my livingroom,
But you want my mind in the grip of your bed.

But either way, it all works out in the end,
'Cause I know there's a hole in your soul I could mend.
If we just stuck together til the very end,
would we ever make it back?

I hear you screaming "Please, get out of my head,
'Cause you know there's a soul in my hole you could mend."
If we just tear apart 'til we bleed out the poison,
    I know we'll make it...

Everyone's lonely all of their lives,
But we can help each other get through the night,
If you looked in my eyes, you'd see I was right,
When I swore at the end of this song, you'd have me singing...

"Us and our love are the answer, for a world of pain,
And us and our love are the sunset at the end of the day."

Oh, us and our love were the answer, but you threw it away...

Know The Peach Tree as that guy that makes all that pounding electronica? Well it all started very differently. The first two songs I ever wrote were acoustic pop songs called The Colour Of Your Eyes and 17. I enjoy whipping out the guitar every now and then and playing these songs when I'm hanging out with friends.

Just recently I did an open mic night at The Bendigo Hotel where I played these two beautiful songs, and the 10 minute epic "A Change Of Perception", all of which can be found on the album The Gus Sessions, and it was recorded on film.

So without further ado, I welcome you to the realm of Peach Tree Videos, right here on :)

I'm quite happy with the performance, it's some of the best singing I've ever done, and the videos capture a really nice live atmosphere.

Please listen, and leave comments if you wish.

    Hope you are all well.

  • A Darker Shade Of Tao - explanation and lyrics

    20 fév. 2008, 8h04m

    The Peach Tree
    -A Darker Shade Of Tao

"The Tao is empty, yet use will not drain it.
Deep, it is like the ancestor of the myriad creatures.
    Blunt the sharpness
    Untangle the knots;
    Soften the glare;
Let your wheels move only along old ruts.
Darkly visible, it only seems as if it were there.
I know not whose son it is.
It images the forefather of God."

-Lao Tzu, from the Tao Te Ching

Tao is The Way, the embodiment of the ebb and flow of yin and yang,
of Darkness and Light, the unification of both sides of the coin.
In creating this album, I set out to show this harmony, this unification,
yet in naming it "A Darker Shade of Tao" I am recognising the fact that
we can only ever see one side of the coin, and for me, in this moment of
my life, the Dark Side is facing me. The Tao is ineffable, it cannot
be spoken about using words or even music. This album is my attempt to show
both Evil and Good, Heaven and Hell, Dark and Light, Yang and Yin, whilst
keeping a level head about my own mortality and my complete inablity to
express that which is unattainable by mortals. The album also explores
themes of the dreaming world and alternate worlds; all of which, together
with our own world, make up the Tao.

I would not be the first person to say that I'm not a good singer, but it
was important to me to express the concept of this album in my own voice.
I hope you can forgive the roughness of my singing and look beyond it to
the message I am trying to get across. Please feel free to download and
distribute this album wherever you wish (as long as it's not for profit).

Free music is one of the heralds of a new age.

Dreams In Darkness (Love In Light)

    Without Light we cannot love.
    Without Light we cannot love.
    Without Light we cannot love,
But without Darkness, we cannot dream.

    Walk The Knife Edge

    The World of Dreams is the gateway between this world and every other;
Worlds where there is no Darkness, worlds where this is no Light,
And worlds where both exist in perfect harmony.

Have you ever dreamt about blood?
Have you ever dreamt about hope?
About death? About life? About loss? About Wealth?

I dream all the time, slipping through the cracks in Reality.
I live, breathe and walk, waking, through Hell and Heaven.

I have seen both sides of the coin,
And I will always walk the knife edge,
Never choosing one side or the other.
For the answer lies in both, and yet in neither.

For the answer lies in both, and yet in neither.

It was 36 degrees outside today.
I'm sorry 'bout the party but I couldn't stay.
And on the way home I took the longer way,
Then I met you at the stroke of 12.

It was windy and rainy in the afternoon.
Somebody help me cos I'm slipping into the Gloom.
Black and Purple comes melting into the room,
And I'll meet you at the gates of Hell.

It was pouring rain and I was locked outside.
A multitude of colours in the morning light.
I tried to grit my teeth and ignore the fight,
But they beat me, with their game of stealth.

I'm a rich man, but I have no worth.
Undercover from a rain of filth.
I believe, but I have no faith.
The Tower comes crashing to the earth.

    The Gloom

    I Believe

I don't wanna be so Dark, but I kinda am,
Don't wanna fly around in your hand.
Save me before I hit the ground,
Cos I fall when you're not around.

    Love you for today,
    Love you 'til tomorrow.
    Love you every way,
    Love you just a little.

I want to follow the way,
But the Light's too hot to handle.
    Love you for today,
But the Darkness starts to whittle me away.

It seems that Life just takes you anywhere.
I believe in The Light, that guides you to The Stair.
I beleive in Heaven, I believe in God.
I believe you'll never make it in your current state.

    The Dragon's Scale

The Light pours in overtaking The Shadow,
But the might to win is on The Other Side.

And I laugh in the face of The Devil.
I laugh in the face of The Devil.
I laugh in the face of The Devil
In the mirror, cos The Devil's inside of me.

    Tied To The Sky

And we're falling all over ourselves,
Trying to find what it is
Keeping us tied to the sky,
Keeping our feet on the ground.

    On the ground,
    On the ground,
    On the ground,
    Tied to the sky.

I don't wanna be of the earth,
I think I belong in the sea.
    So many forgotten treasures
    Bursting out of me.

And I wanna end up in Heaven
    (Tied to the sky),
Floating as free as a cloud
(Keeping your feet on the ground).
Everything that I see is a sign
    (Tied to the sky)
So I'm taking the longer way home
(Keeping your feet on the ground).

    The Other Side

    Slip Into The Sun

    No need to help me,
As I slip into the Sun.
    The stars are shifting,
And I've only just been born.

    Tell me how and where,
And I'll make sure that I come.
    Your brow is bare,
And the branches hold a frown.

    Take my hand,
And we can slip into the Sun.
    Slip into the Sun.
    Slip into the Sun.

    Let's get viral
And infect each other with our Love.

    The Wheel Of Time

Soldiers of The Dark ascend to battle with The Light.
Krishna tells Arjuna he must carry on the fight.
But bloody hands are not my thing and I don't wanna die,
Though I often wonder how and when and sometimes wonder why.

Like pawns upon a chessboard we can only go one way,
And hope to god our rulers know the price we have to pay.
Inside the forest is a garden where we go to play,
But outside eyes of crystal blue cut everything away.

I want to be a human being,
Ignore the pain that I am feeling,
    But Desire fuels the Burning,
    That sears my flesh away.

Inside the Void I can feel nothing,
Except the Light that's always there,
    Casting shadows on the ceiling,
    That blow my mind away.

    Armed with a Thakandar blade
    And lots of charisma,
    He deftly persuaded the winter
    To alter its course.

They battled through Shadow and Light
    Throughout all of time,
    'Til the taint of saidin
    Ran amok in their minds.

    The Final Hour

    It's not about Might,
    It's not about Power,
When it comes to the final hour.

    Ignore the fight
    In your mind,
Or they'll leave you all behind.

    It's not about Light,
    It's not about Darkness,
It is both and yet it's neither.

    Take my hand,
    Gentle lamb,
And we can pass on through together.
  • We Are God And Computers Are Our Children

    10 déc. 2007, 10h38m

It's only a matter of time before Artificial Intelligence reaches the point where computers and their networks are considered a whole new species of being. Even in its early stages, we humans are the creators and guiders of this amazing new technology that will one day change the way people think about consciousness and "the self". WE ARE GOD, and Computers are our Children.

I have started a musical project that in no way can compare to the awesomeness of the idea presented here, but still I thought it appropriate to link the idea with the music, as the tracks I am compiling would not have been possible without the stellar amazingness of computers and the internet. We Are God And Computers Are Our Children by The Peach Tree is an ongoing cyber-collaboration and cyber-revering project that heralds in a new era of consciousness.

    Dig It, and enjoy :)
  • In Rainbows

    10 oct. 2007, 8h56m

So I just downloaded the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows.

I couldn't contain my excitement as I opened my email and saw that it was available, and was almost giggling like a schoolgirl as the .zip file completed downloading, and I eagerly burned the CD...

Having just listened to it, my head is swimming with beautiful melodies. The album is very avant-garde, jazzy, playful and has deep undercurrents.

Criticisms? I can't understand what Thom is singing about. And, that's all I can think of. But their music has morphed these days into Sigur Ros-style electronica whereby the emphasis isn't on what they're saying, but how they say it.

No doubt as I delve more into the album and learn what the lyrics are there will be powerful messages. As Drew Barrymore's character in the film "Music and Lyrics" says, music is like sex, it's the instant attraction, and the lyrics are like the relationship as you get to know the person, they let you inside.

Can't remember the exact quote but it's more or less to that effect.

Anyway I will keep listening to this album and have no doubts it will grow on me more and more and more, like every other of their albums has, until it is a treasure I would never part with.
  • Thoughts on the album "The Peach Tree - Psychosis" by the creator, me.

    6 oct. 2007, 9h25m

I started making Psychosis about a year ago, in late 2006, when I was feeling a bit down. I had broken up with my girlfriend earlier in the year, and the subsequent months were torturous. I was smoking lots of pot and kept to myself, writing music for the album Fabric. When I did go out I lost control and said and did some stupid things. I lost a lot of friends and credibility. I finished the Fabric album in a stony haze of woe and regret, and feeling like I had once again fallen short of the mark, I pushed music aside for a little while. As time went along I was constantly seeking to re-establish a grounding on my own, re-establish connections and prove to myself that I could be a good person.

What came out of this period was a higher sense of self-awareness, where I realised that I was jerk in a number of ways, and I sat down and thought how I could make my life better. As is often the case with me, my thoughts presented themselves as music, and the first glimpses of what would be the Psychosis album started to appear. The first thought I had about my life was one that occurs often in my writings and music of the past: that the course of my life had been changed by my intake of drugs over the years. But rather than blame them for all of my problems I looked at it objectively. Thus the first track I laid down was Hard Drug Abuse, after I conveniently found a sample using the phrase that I could chop up. The idea was not to either glorify the subject or to slander it, but merely open the album with a statement and let the listener decide from there. Other tracks followed as I thought more about my life and the direction it had gone in. Tracks such as All This Is Real (I Hope) stemmed from, obviously, my uncertainties about the world, whilst the gripping pulse of Psy Vampires came to me whilst dreaming of flightful fancies.

Throughout the year of 2007 I worked hard on the album, perfecting my shabby recording techniques and using exciting new programs such as Propllerhead's Reason. As it began to evolve from its humble beginnings as a 5-track EP called "A Really Good Techno EP" into a fleshed out saga, it started to incorporate a lot of varying elements. There are moments of complete depression, such as the lyrics "Every day I wake up and I have to deal with psychosis" / "Every day I wake up I wish I was dead" from Psychosis (Episode Two), and moments of silliness (Doctor Seuss Or A Sheep???) as well as pumpin' good fun - Everybody Get Up And Fuckenndance (Cos This Is MDMA)!!!

The main focus of the album, however, is the mental disease that is Psychosis. It is, basically, to quote from an earlier song of mine: "A Change Of Perception", where the fringes of this reality and all other realities, from the fury of hell to the blinding light of heaven, are blurred and confused. Reality is what you make it, and when your reality is governed by a diseased mind, things get hairy.

I'm feeling better now, and when I look back on the last few years and where this trip has taken me, I'm very proud to stand where I am.

Psychosis is my story, and I'm very glad to share it with you.
