So, I have been mighty busy lately, but have succeeded in finding a few new artists (or new albums) that I really like. Here's a few suggestions from my music collection
#1 - Blackpool Lights 's new album This Town's Disaster.
I was really excited to hear more from Jim Suptic's new band (formerly of The Get Up Kids). The demos I had heard were great, so yesterday's release was much anticipated. In all seriousness, Suptic did not fail to disappoint. Good 'ol fashion unadulterated, unpretentious rock. I love it!
# 2 - The Format's new album Dog Problems
Wow! I loved this band from when I used to live in Arizona. I have a feeling however, that The Format may lose some fans with this album. But I say let them go! Sure, it isn't the straightforward indie-pop-rock that some may have been anticipating, but in more ways that I can explain, this album displays a HUGE evolution in the band's song-writing-man-ship. Dare I say, "mature"? I hate saying that bands have matured - but their sound has definitly grown - we'll use that term - grown. An excellent album of big-production rock with lots of strings, horns and phenominal lyrics.
Ok, I admit my in the closet penchant for underground hip hop. I love Blackalicious, Lifesavas, Blue Scholars, Maroons, and stuff of the sort. When I heard of another hip hop group hailing from Seattle (my old stomping grounds) I was eager to hear them. DJ'd by Sabzi of Blue Scholars, Common Market is amazing! Wow. I can't stop listening to it.
Maybe I'll call it good there. I could go on, but there is just too much to say. So much good music out there - so little time.
