Ancient Wisdom - For Snow Covered The Northland is another good black/doom album I think I forgot to mention. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYGNmQIWxT8

Yeah, it may have just been a bad rip. Hard to tell. The copy I have isn't quite as good of quality as the bandcamp but it's still definitely listenable.

I can usually find albums before they come out in 128 and then within a month or so of it being released there's usually a 320 or flac going around slsk.

Checked slsk? I haven't looked on there in a week or two.

I have a 128 copy, but the guitars don't really seem to sound much different. You want me to upload this one or wait for a better bitrate?

Pretty sure I have the 128 rip but I'll take a look later.

Other than that, how are things for you? You have graduated from university now, right?

Hey man. Yes, I am still here doing that. These days research is in this place where it's exciting because there is a plethora of intriguing and promising data, but at the same time it's truly difficult to take it to the next level and experiment on humans. It's not just the FDA that is making it difficult but actually pharmaceutical companies. Indeed, I would fault them more than the FDA. Pharma companies do not like for clinical trials to turn up negative or harmful results on their experimental drugs, so more often than not rather than allow researchers to use their drugs in clinical trials they do their own in-house safety trials for decades and the public never gets to see what could happen with those drugs. This and other mental/philosophical roadblocks in medical cancer research has turned me off a bit to the field. But I think there may be some big paradigm shifts that will open the door to new innovations in how we treat cancer that will revitalize this field for me.

Thanks, will check them, I only know Annihilator and I've heard of Hellwitch. Hope I'll like most of them :)

I'm not as into them as to Sadus or Coroner but I actually do know them, I've heard Nemesis and their first too, really nice band. Thanks for the recommendation tho! Not sure if you know them but if you don't, you should check out Aspid, AMAZING and real fast technical thrash from Russia:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dcDIgQXmAE

Heh, you can definitely tell the difference between flac and mp3 if you listen on really nice headphones or speakers. I actually recently started downloading my favorite death metal albums in flac and I usually try to download any classical in flac anymore.

You can edit flac info but you need a specific media player that is able to do that. I know Mediamonkey and Winamp are able to. You can also try right clicking the flac file from inside Windows explorer and see if you have an option to 'edit tag' in that menu.

Keep in mind that opera is the area of classical music I've probably explored the least, heh. Also opera varies a lot, I'm sure you're familiar with the concept of an entire production with acting/story/etc all involving music in opera. A lot of opera has a few really good musical pieces and then a lot of pieces involving dialogue. I can definitely suggest some random pieces though. Try 'Song to the Moon' by Dvorak from Rusalka. Vocalise from Rachmaninoff, Jeux d'eau by Ravel, and there's another Ave Maria by Gounod. You may also want to check out the 'lied' type of pieces that some composers do. Typically a solo piano or a piano accompanied by a stringed instrument + vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdgD-MALqqs

Link sent. In other news, Bizarre of Brutality is pretty cool too. Not quite as cool as Carrion, but it's the closest in terms of musical content probably.

Feel free to shoot me some recs of nice central/eastern Europe unique death/doom :D I've known Carrion before, and managed to squeeze in a listen to the Insepultus EP earlier today, and I really dig both.
