Review, Pablo Honey

Radioheads first studio album, Pablo Honey, shows every sign if being just that - first. It's an easygoing, straighforward record which shows no sign of the bands later work. And why would it?

Pablo Honey was released in 1993, right in the middle of that post-Nirvana hole Kurt Cobain was about to leave. The world urged for a band to fill that hole, and even though Radiohead didn't show much influence by Nirvana (except maybe for Creep), the album was for the 90s just as Bleach was for the late 80s. With Pablo Honey, Radiohead slowly started the winding road creating a new genre. The time of grunge was over, and Radiohead simply demanded the throne with introducing a new sound with their first album.

However, the start was a silent one. Except for the low-profile hit-song Creep the album didn't have much influence on people. The album simply wasn't brave enough, hence it's considered by most Radiohead-fans to be the weakest one.
Putting every prejudiced thought away for a second, I will now try to give you an objective review on the album that started the career for Radiohead.

It's a reason why Radiohead never play any tracks from Pablo Honey when performing live. The album simply doesn't reflect who Radiohead is today. And it beats me that probably not a single track on this album would be good enough for a new Radiohead album. The sound is sort of "unfinished". I will now give you what you came here for - a list of my ups and downs in this album.

Tracks:
1. You
2. Creep
3. How Do You?
4. Stop Whispering
5. Thinking About You
6. Anyone Can Play Guitar
7. Ripcord
8. Vegetable
9. Prove Yourself
10. I Can't
11. Lurgee
12. Blow Out

Best song: Ripcord

Worst song: And here I'm about to step on someones toes, but this track is so disappointing. It has a killer start, and then the chorus is somehow "Grand Prix"-inspired. Im talking about Anyone Can Play Guitar. Not worst track overall, but for me the disappointment is unbearing.

Best Party Track: No doubt, How Do You?

Best Chill-Out song: Lurgee

Highlight: That "WHA WHA, WHA WHA"-guitar sound in Creep

Honorable mentions: Stop Whispering, Creep, You,Blow Out and I Can't are all good tracks.

Summary:
Lyrics: 5/10
Songs: 6/10
Cover: 7/10 (I think it's a great one, although it doesn't fit with the other albums)
Total: 6/10
