  • Do you like Phil Collins?

    22 mai 2007, 2h03m

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

  • Animals is the best Pink Floyd album

    28 oct. 2006, 22h42m

I just realized, for the 20th time, that Animals is truely a masterpiece.

To celebrate this, I'll post the lyrics from Dogs :)

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when youre on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.

And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
Youll get the chance to put the knife in.

You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know its going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end youll pack, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
    Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer.

And when you loose control, youll reap the harvest that youve sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And its too late to loose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down alone
    Dragged down by the stone.

I gotta admit that Im a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if Im just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake of this creeping malaise
If I dont stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?

Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyones expendable and no-one had a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
And you believe at heart, everyones a killer.

Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a seat in the stand
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone
Who was dragged down by the stone.
  • On the Outside

    9 oct. 2006, 23h23m

    On The Outside

    They laugh at me aloud
They say I'm just a clown
That I ain't got no pride
    I'm on the outside
    The girls look really cute
    They really make it work
They think I'm just a jerk
    I'm on the outside
    I never could sit still
    I never was too hip
    I never caught the ride
    I'm on the outside
I'm on the outside, I'm on the outside now
This is where it all begins right here
On the outside lookin' in, I'm on the outside
    I never was a punk
    I never shot junk
    I never even tried counter
Counter culture passed me right by
    (I'm on the outside)
    Don't talk to debutantes
    Don't eat in restaurants
    The patrons sit and stare
The waiters make wise cracks behind my back
    (I'm on the outside)
    Teachers there in school
They flunked me by the rule
They say I had no motivation, brains or dedication
I guess the imbeciles were right I'm on the outside
I'm on the outside, I'm on the outside now
This is where it all begins on the outside looking in
    Looking in
    At you
I'm just an alien through and through
Tryin' to make believe I'm you
    Tryin' to fit
Just a stranger on the outside looking in
The disco makes me sick I
    Wear the wrong clothes
    I say the wrong things
    You know I can't dance
My feet are much too wide (I'm on the outside)
You think you set the trends
You wear your hair just right
    Your clothes are out-a-sight
Your house is modern really kitch
You get so macho when you're with your bitch
    (I'm on the outside)
I see them go to work
I see them go to sleep
    I see them on T.V.
I see them laugh and cry
I'm on the outside. I'm on the outside. I'm on the outside
    (Repeat chorus)
I'm on the outside. I'm on the outside now
    I'm on the outside
    I'm on the outside now
