Aurora Infernalis 2013

Sat 26 Oct – Aurora Infernalis Festival Part V

As I was only familiar with Troll and some songs of Dodheimsgard, most bands were new for me this evening.

Krakow (obviously from Norway) started the festival well and was in my opinion one of the most surprising bands of the day, with nice variation in the songs and good drumming. Khors followed nicely too! Although a bit simpler, I could have easily listened another hour to them. Then it was time for Hetroertzen, a bit too carnavalic for for my taste (like Ghost), but nice guitar play. Up next, Mgła, even though their performance was really good, the songs sounded a bit similar after a while, and so it got boring towards the end. After dinner it was time for Lugubrum, this is truly a band you have to like, and I simply couldnt get into their 'progressiveness' and boring performance. The Ruins of Beverast followed and while I expected quite a lot from them, the sound was poor and the songs sounded like they only played CD outros or something… Then it was Dødheimsgard, that just started playing while they still seemed to be soundchecking. Nonetheless a nice perormance, and I actually liked the unusual movements of the singer. Something else for a change. I definitely prefered the old songs though. Finally it was time for Vemod, awesome show and drumming, but like Mgła a bit too much of the same (but better IMO).

Oh yes, and sometimes in between bands was DJ Svartsinn. Im not sure his music really came out in this setting. Then again, he was mostly absent from his DJ table, so Im sure he didnt mind too much.

Then, off to another location for Troll. Nice way to take more cash… But definitely worth it. The small location seemed to suit the show and the band really enjoyed playing (as did the singer of DHG in the moshpit). Best show of the day by far! Troll came, saw and conquered!

(Ah yes, unexpectedly Mondvolland also performed before Troll, pretty decent show.)

All in all a great day, so surely see you next year!
