What works/pieces would you recommend? I'm currently listening to early music and jazz, but I am also interested in 20th century classical music. I have seen several people use that New Yorker cover as an avatar or profile accessory - what is the appeal of it?

Yes, and Mitterer's projects are quite varied — a lot to explore.

What an odd thing: I couldn't find it either. But thanks for the info, I didn't know this Beksiński before. (I'm glad you like my charts, by the way. You seem to have a very peculiar taste I might dive into)

Hello Josh, I hope you wouldn't mind telling me whose painting is that on your profile? I got here incidentally, since you were the toplistener for one of Pärt's songs I was browsing.

Heyo TA for the visit! Looks like I can find quite a few new classical artists here on your profile. I also followed your band camp link, and I'm currently giving your music a listen too as well. Three songs in and I'm certain yours fits very well into my current tastes. TA again.

It's a bit slower than usual today, yet abuzz with the kind of small inflections and fluctuations one would expect to hear in any spoken language - I find it far more exiting and affecting than the more "modern", streamlined performances I've heard. Make sure to spread the word on those Gregor recordings. :)

Judging by those tags you stumbled upon my rip, glad you're enjoying it. Isn't that performance of the cub's chorus just the most heartwarming music imaginable?

Ah, I'm pleased we've become friends after such flattery. :-D I'm fond of both those scores, but I think my favorite Goldsmith score is Masada. I saw an obscure interview once in which Jerry said that was his favorite too, and I this reinforced my favor.

It's always good to hear that my Amazon reviews are useful for people. Yes, Pettersson sometimes appears in my playlist, but that's only so that I can keep up with the Pettersson phenomenon that many of my friends rave about. I don't really like his work and prefer other composers in the "Nordic" idiom.

I haven't listened to Allan Pettersson in a while. Fairly intense if I remember correctly. He lived in a lot of psychic if not physical pain as well, am I accurate? In any case that comes through in his compositions. I also bought Nørgård's 7th symphony as soon as it was available. I think it's terrific. Regarding Danish composers, have you heard Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen's "Plateaux pour Piano et Orchestre"? You might find it interesting. I've been focusing on many of the composers associated in one way or another with the Paris and Vienna scenes. Just to name-check for a bit -- Gérard Pesson, Gerd Kühr, Régis Campo, Hèctor Parra, Hugues Dufourt, Beat Furrer, Philippe Hurel, Emmanuel Nunes, Jérôme Combier, Bruno Mantovani, Brice Pauset, Michaël Lévinas, Mauricio Sotelo, Peter Ablinger, Johannes Schöllhorn, Thierry Pécou, Jonathan Harvey, Luca Francesconi, Johannes Maria Staud, Michaël Lévinas, Wolfgang Mitterer... others.

Hi, and thanks for your invite! I found one for me new and very interesting violinist/composer in your library, Paul Giger. You have a nice collection, I am sure there are a lot more to discover!

Hey Josh, thanks for reading and commenting. I've considered writing about his 6th symphony as well but I need to listen to it more. It strikes me as very similar to the 5th. But I'm busy with projects these days so it will have to wait.

Messiaen, yes. I've listened most extensively to his piano music, a unique harmonic language. But it's been a while.
