You should check out the band Faith No More. Mike Patton (their singer) is a really talented guy. Their compilation, Who Cares a Lot?, is a good introduction. They're basically like an alternative metal band, you've probably heard at least one or two songs.

I can't blame you about wanting to leave that state. I want to leave mine as well some time (NJ). Regarding high school... even I feel into the slacker thing for my first two years. I think part of the problem is our schools aren't serving boys very well. If they act like... boys, they get medicated. I've seen that within our own family. I don't know about you, but my favorite teachers were fellow dudes. We need male role models, but the education system is also unfriendly to male teachers. I considered the teacher route myself, but ruled it out for that reason. Unfortunately I think we should probably be experimenting with sex segregated schools, but that's another issue. Won't be accepted because a lot of people like the current status quo where females do better, and it also means we have to accept males and females are different. The horror!

Anyways, it is what it is. It's certainly not the path towards a traditional society, though; if you look at history, when female promiscuity is let loose and fathers are devalued (as is certainly now the case in our culture, legally and otherwise), you get declining male investment in family and society. The few matriarchies that have existed have always been backwards and have characteristically uninvolved males for this reason.

For something to truly be a double standard (like the "sluts vs. studs" thing), we have to be comparing two things that are the same. Men and women clearly ain't the same. Female promiscuity has traditionally been looked down upon because it's obviously bad for mothering, and it introduces the possibility of being cuckolded. So, the aversion to that is quite strongly embedded in us. Alternatively, studies actually show that men who sleep around actually tend to be more attractive to women (which obviously isn't the case in reverse) - kind of ironic that they complain about a supposed double standard, yet they enable it!

Concerning America, things are just going to get worse here. It's not politically correct, but we keep importing Mexicans and other third worlders who have substantially lower IQs (and substantially higher tendencies towards criminality). This is the main problem behind our declining education standards if you look into it (if you just take white kids, we're suddenly in the top 5 for math and reading IIRC). Bailouts and the welfare state will continue until we can't afford them any more, and you just have to plan your life accordingly. That sounds like a useful degree, although I'd check job prospects. I know at least some areas of engineering have more graduates than job openings, plus that's vulberable to being offshored. Nothing says you can't offshore yourself, of course, and all this analysis is part of my own problem - paralysis by overanalysis. At least you're choosing something that you actually need a degree for.

Yep, there's a ton of immaturity in colleges now. I don't think people who attended them a few decades ago would even believe they were colleges if they didn't know better. Education has been so watered down that Charles Murray estimates the average Bachelor's degree of today is about as difficult to obtain as a high school diploma from 40 years ago. I bet those four party animals get blasted and pick up a lot of chicks, though! What an encouraging system where that's considered normal.

Sounds like Marx authored your text. The worst part is a lot of the young, impressionable chuckleheads reading it probably don't give it a second thought. It's sad that people never learn from history; socialism is a disaster that has literally killed tens of millions. On a separate topic, some of the songs on Julian's solo album are like, his best since Is This It. Out of the Blue is great!

Cool. It seems to have some potential. Kind of sounds like Strokes songs done with synths.
