From now on, I'll only be using last.fm to scrobble music and that's it. The functionality and social aspects of this site have gone down massively and I lost interest.

However I'm still very very much into music (and musicals too, lately). My concert documentation can be found HERE. Also keeping a blog HERE. Feel free to follow me there, if you care.

On a slightly more music-related note... upcoming:
20101202 - The Fool (JP) / Guren (JP)
    20101231/20110101 - L'Arc~en~Ciel (JP)
    20110228 - Within Temptation (NL)
    20110608 - Katie Melua

I'M GOING TO L'Arc~en~Ciel's NEW YEAR'S LIVE. FUCK YEAH.
  • Concert reports part 4: Plastic Tree, Counter Culture, B'z

    15 fév. 2010, 14h56m

Because I went to a ton of lives since I came to Japan, and wrote (short) reports for some of them, here's part 4!

    2010.02.07 Plastic Tree
I really really enjoyed the concert. I mean, to be honest I just don't like their last album Donna Donna. It won't grow on me and all the songs are just... net niet. Thankfully they played more songs from their old albums than from Donna Donna and frankly the audience was much more enthusiastic during older songs. Overall it was a really good live and especially the encore was pure win.

    2010.02.11 COUNTER CULTURE
The event was totally awesome! heidi. started and they were fun as usual. They also played a new song, which I really liked. It was nice and upbeat, and everyone enjoyed it from the start even though it was the first time we heard it.

After heidi. came lynch. They were just like I expected from them: kick-ass. Sadly the sound was a bit too loud but the audience was really enthusiastic either way. Lots of headbanging. I liked their setlist, although I missed the good old songs like I'm sick, bcuz luv u. Also the first song they played maybe wasn't the best opener...

Last was Sadie. They were really nice to see again. Played a lot of fun songs, not as many headbang-songs as I expected but it was fun either way. As an encore, the vocalists of the other two bands came on stage and together with Sadie they performed my favourite song by Sadie, Meisai. Pretty cool to hear the other two vocalists sing along. I was curious how Yoshihiko from heidi. would do but he did pretty damn well. Great ending to a great night!

    2010.02.12 B'z
I have to say... this was the best show right behind all L'Arc shows I went to. It was sooooo good. Our places were quite nice and we could see everything well (the poor short people behind us couldn't, but everyone was super friendly and even though they were hardcore fans they didn't mind us being so tall). They played a lot of awesome songs, opened with Dive which we already expected. Most other songs were from the new album Magic, but there were some older songs as well.

They had a lot of awesome effects as well, like fire, fireworks, sparkles and huge "bomb" balloons that were thrown into the audience and "exploded" into millions of little heart shaped balloons at random moments. During the song "Freedom Train" the side stages moved up and showed us two freedom trains LOL. And halfway the song だれにも言えねぇ (transl. "Can't tell anyone"), a "だれにも言えねぇ wishing well" came on stage that Inaba started telling stuff to (a camera was hidden inside so obviously we heard and saw everything). Pretty random and amusing.

During "Mayday!" part of the stage started moving and moved the band to the back of the dome. Now, honestly, I only rarely believe fans when they say "zomg xxx looked at me! They saw me!" but when the stage was moving right past us, the bassist pointed specifically at us (and everyone around us was like "omg that was for YOU"). The Fukuoka dome is the largest hall I've ever been to, and the largest concert I've ever been to, yet now we were noticed and by the foreigner bassist at that. I lol'd (at least until the women next to us said I looked like the bassist D: ) .

B'z was so awesome I actually bought a ticket for March 3rd in Tokyo one day later!
  • Concert reports part 3: Jack in the Box, BEAT SHUFFLE LIVE SIDE 2009 -D.N.A-

    15 fév. 2010, 14h52m

Because I went to a ton of lives since I came to Japan, and wrote (short) reports for some of them, here's part 3!

2009.12.27 Jack in the Box (click for report!)

    2009.12.29 BEAT SHUFFLE LIVE SIDE 2009 -D.N.A-
On December 29th I went to this event that was held in Omiya Sonic City. LM.C, D'espairsRay, Penicillin, Nightmare and Creature Creature were there. It was really quite enjoyable and most acts performed well. All bands also performed their more famous songs, so that was also quite fun for a change. I didn't really like the hall though, it was a theatre hall, my seat was on the 2nd floor and most of the 2nd floor was empty (it wasn't sold out by far)...

First of all there was LM.C. I'm not really interested in them and after their first release I haven't listened to them at all, but they performed really well. They really got the crowd going, had a good show and sounded excellent. Still not a fan of their music, but cannot deny it was a good show.

LM.C was followd by D'espairsRay, who I absolutely love. They played some amazing songs (sorry not at home with titles) and I headbanged my head off. Loved them, but didn't expect anything else of course :D

They were followed by Penicillin. I really like Penicillin but... their performance was a big disappointment. They didn't play very well imho, and Hakuei also didn't sound that well, if he was audible at all. They did play Romance, which was also one of the songs that was performed better, and it was fun to hear it live. On a less music-related note, Hakuei's outfit was interesting to say the least :P

Then was Nightmare. They performed well, had a good show and the crowd loved them. But I never listen to their music and am just not into them. Will not be into them from now on either, their music still sounds like generic stuff to me.

Last was Creature Creature. While I understand why they were last (probably because of Morrie's fame?), the crowd consisted of rather young fans (and some really old ones mixed in as well, who were all obviously Morrie fans haha) and no one really cared. I did like their performance, but there was even less atmosphere than at Jack in the Box. D'aw.

  • Concert reports part 2: BUG, An Cafe

    15 fév. 2010, 14h45m

Because I went to a ton of lives since I came to Japan, and wrote (short) reports for some of them, here's part 2!

    2009.09.24 BUG
I doubt a lot of people on my friends list know them, except maybe the people who frequent Jack in the Box. They're the other band of D'ERLANGER's vocalist Kyo. I'm a bit of a Kyo fan, and while BUG is not entirely my most favourite works of his (he has a lot), I decided to go anyway. And I gotta say... while this band sounds 'just nice' on cd, they kick serious ass live! I really had an amazing night.

    2009.09.25 BUG
Yesterday I forgot to mention this, but because they played two days they mostly played songs from the first half of their discography the first day, and on the second day they mostly played songs from the second half (from Biored to Angel's Trumpet). And incidentally I really love this second half of their discography, so yesterday rocked! It was even more awesome than the first day ♥

    2009.09.27 heidi.
    2009.10.11 heidi.
    2009.10.27 Onmyouza

    2009.11.27 アンティック-珈琲店-

First of all, it was a great concert. They played well, although none of them were very genki, and the setlist was a lot of fun! They played some songs from the last album, some Gokutama Rock Cafe and Magnya Carta songs, and some older songs like Escapis and Duck no magical adventure.

Anyway, it ended up in being one big cryfest, both the band and the audience were quite emotional and the band (mainly Miku) talked a lot about the break. And they said they got sad thinking it was probably the last time they performed in Fukuoka... I'm not sure how many An Cafe fans I currently have on my friendslist, but... We all know about their 'break', right?
(note: wrote this report when things were still unsure about the break)
  • Concert reports part 1: lynch., Dir en grey, Inazuma Rock Fes

    15 fév. 2010, 14h34m

Because I went to a ton of lives since I came to Japan, and wrote (short) reports for some of them, here's part 1!

    2009.09.04 VAMPS
    2009.09.05 VAMPS

    2009.09.06 lynch.

On the 6th of September I went to the lynch. concert in the evening, which was SO. FUCKING. AWESOME. They played really well, the atmosphere was good (although I want to punch every single fan who did furitsuke - not just headbanging and hand movements but furitsuke - in the face) and the light, fire and smoke effects were awesome! Great concert, and my neck hurt the next day from headbanging harrr.
(This concert is now also released on dvd: TOUR '09 THE SHADOW IMPULSE FINAL 2009.09.06 at AKASAKA BLITZ)

    2009.09.09 DIR EN GREY
I'm still not sure why I bought the ticket, it was a spur of the moment thing and afterwards I facepalmed myself for 'wasting' so much money. However the concert kicked ass! They obviously put so much more effort in their Japanese shows. I still don't like Uroboros, the songs work better live but after 2 songs I was completely sick of the style already. However they played quite some pre-Uroboros songs for which I was glad. Although I have to say Kyo added a lot of new screaming to them... It's done well but I still feel a bit meh about it. Anyway, long story short, the concert was pretty awesome in the end, and I got a cool new iPod cover 8D

    2009.09.20 Inazuma Rock Fes
First of all we had to get there, which was a bit of a pain. So off to some train station in the middle of nowhere, to then take a shuttle bus to the festival. Except they made us walk faaaar for the damn shuttle bus. Anyway, when we arrived at the festival (we didn't go early and I was absolutely happy about that) Seamo was just performing. What a bunch of crap.

Moving on, next was tetsu! Who is of course Tetsu and therefore it was amazing. Except maybe the rapper. Long story short, the performance was a lot of fun and I liked the setlist, except maybe that Lonely Girl song which seemed a bit... errr..... out of place.

Next up was BUCK-TICK. I haven't been listening to their recent releases, but I really like their music. And that's why I was afraid it was going to be a disappointment, but no such thing! They were absolutely amazing and their performance was really strong.

Then last was TM.Revolution and I have to be entirely honest. I am not a fan of him or his music at all, but damn he can perform! I was genuinely impressed. Of course halfway Tetsu came out again to do one song with him, and then around 8 it ended.

  • Best of 2009!

    31 déc. 2009, 14h42m

With New Year's being only 15 minutes away where I am (Japan), here's my Best of 2009!

    Top 3 bands of 2009
    01. L'Arc~en~Ciel. They released their Live in Paris dvd this year, and all their solo projects were very active and amazing as well!
    02. D'ERLANGER. New album, and from what I have heard their show in the NHK Hall in Tokyo in November was amazing too (and is probably gonna be made into a dvd if I got this right!)
    03. MUCC. Lots of activity overseas, as well as a new album, as well as being just plain amazing lately!

    Top 5 albums of 2009
This was seriously difficult. I know throughout the year I felt there wasn't enough new music released by artists I like, but looking back there was plenty. Very good stuff too! That's why I decided to not make this a top 3 like in previous years, but instead a top 5.
    01. Ken - IN PHYSICAL. When this was just released I had doubts about it, but it grew on me and now I absolutely absolutely love it.
    02. D'ERLANGER - D'ERLANGER. This was one of the albums I was really looking forward to from the moment I heard about the release. I wasn't disappointed. It has a bit of a different vibe from D'erlanger's previous two albums but I'm in love with this album.
    03. シド - hikari. I was very disappionted in the previous two albums, play and Sentimental Macchiato, so for the first time I decided to not pre-order this new album when it came out. Until a friend said this album was great, I didn't listen to it either. But it ended up being amazing, exactly what I like to hear from シド!
    04. Vamps - Vamps. Only 4th place for Vamps this time. I definitely like their album, the only reason it's only 4th place is because I like places 1 to 3 just a little better.
    05. B'z - MAGIC. In all honesty, this album was once again the same style as Monster and Action and not all that unique. But looking at it seperately I think it's a great album and I really enjoy it!

    Top 3 performances of 2009
    01. This is cheating because it's an event, but... Jack in the Box 2009! A lot of my favourite artists together on one event, the session bands... everything was just perfect. I loved all the performances (minus Zoro, don't care about them), and especially seeing Ken live was a lot of fun.
    02. Vamps on September 5th. I had an arena ticket for this show, and in the Budokan you can simply rock out more when you've got an arena ticket, so that helped a lot. The show was kick-ass!
    03. BUG on September 25th. They had shows on two consecutive days, and during the first day they played songs mostly from the first half of their discography. On the second day, the 25th, they played songs from the latter half of their discography and because I really love that part of their discography I was very very happy! Amazing setlist, amazing atmosphere, great show!

    Best newly (re)discovered band/artist of 2009:
    01. BUG
    02. heidi.
    03. Da Endorphine

Biggest disappointment of 2009: None really. Maybe the fact that not so many (interesting) artists came to the Netherlands (when I was there), or the fact that I'm now living in Nagasaki which is far away from all the good concerts haha.

Looking forward to in 2010: L'Arc~en~Ciel solo projects. Looks like all of them are going to be active with concerts (and possible releases) and I want to catch as many of them as possible! Also, right now I'm really looking forward to the two D'ERLANGER concerts I will be attending in February in Fukuoka.

    06. Dir en grey
    07. B'z

    3. Who is your favorite member in 1?
    I really can't choose.

    4. What’s your favorite lyric bit by 9?
Never really paid attention to that... But the lyrics to Media no Juusei impressed me.

    5. Have you ever seen 5 live?
    Yes. 6 times, I think?

    6. What's your favorite album from 2?
Tie between La vie en rose and Lazzaro.

    7. Do you own any merchandise from 3?
    A t-shirt.

    8. What is a good memory you have of 7?
It's my Japanese sister's favourite band, so whenever I listen to it I think of her.

    9. Is there a member of the same age as you in 2?
Hahahaha it's a band full of old wrinkly man, so no XD

    10. When did you first get into 8?
During the J-Shock event in Cologne in 2007. Their performance was so strong and amazing that I've really liked them ever since.

    11. Who likes 4 along with you?
Just about my whole friends page.

    12. Which song did you first hear from 6?
    Ajisai.

    13. What song made you fall in love with 5?
I really can't remember. Probably something like Yokan.

    14. Which song do you not like by 8?
Hm nothing in specific, I think.

    15. Why do you like 4's songs?
The songs from Roentgen I like because they are so beautiful. The other songs because they're fun, especially live.

    16. Where did you first hear 6?
    Few years ago. 2006 maybe?

    17. How long was 3 a singer before you liked them?
Liked him from the moment he went solo. And before that... uh. My brain won't really function right now so I don't know.

That band's music is full of bad memories (and good ones, too).

    19. When did you get into 3?
After I saw them live for the first time, because their show was really good.

    20. How long have you been into 9?

    25. Does 10 have a song that makes you smile?

    26. What's the last song you've listened to from 8?
    Can't remember.

    27. Is there a song by 4 that you've listened to more than 30 times?

    Lots, haha.

    29. Is there a song you are sick of hearing by 5?
Uh yeah, just about everything? But especially their Gauze album in general.

    30. What song got you into 4?
Nothing 'got me into 4', I just followed him from the start.

    31. What is your favorite single by 1?

    32. If 6 hated you, what would you do?

    38. How many CDs do you own of 8?
3: their albums released in Europe.

    39. Is there a song from 5 that makes you mad?
How can that shit not make you mad. In all seriousness, there's plenty.

    40. Which member from 1 do you want to see go solo? If 4 is only one artist, what would you do if they joined a group?
They've all gone solo already. Although I'd like to see Tetsu active already. And 4 is already in a group, namely in 1, and he has a band of his own for his solo project (VAMPS). So eh, who cares? As long as it's good music.

    41. What does your favorite song from 8 remind you of?
(Robust Conviction) Nothing in particular. Maybe the weekend of their show in Germany at J-Shock.
