Hmmm…it's been a while since I last posted anything. However, the occasion of my 20,000th track on here seemed to call for some kind of comment. The scobbles added up quickly. I decided the honor of the landmark should go to Malaguena. It's a really hot brass arrangement of Ernesto Lecuona's masterpiece. I've played it a lot on here, so it's done it's share in putting me up to 20,000. It won't be the last time I play it :-)

I followed it up with a beautiful piece I rediscovered recently: Variations on a Theme of Mozart. I've had the cd for ages, but I hadn't played it in a long time. It's a tribute to Andrés Segovia, recorded by Christopher Parkening. There are a lot of great guitar pieces on this album, including ones by composers Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, Gaspar Sanz, Federico Moreno Tórroba, Santiago de Murcia, as well as Fernando Sor and Segovia. Parkening has such a delicate touch. The style is so different from another favorite guitarist of mine, Sabicas. That is pure flamenco–strong and fiery.

I've ripped so many cds since my last journal entry, there's no point in trying to catalog them. I still have many more to go. I think the next one I do will be a Fats Waller album. That's certainly different from Fernando Sor!
