Top 10: 5/14-5/21

I've never done this, but now that i'm just about finished with school i figure i'll take a closer look at my top 10. i chose a terrible week to do this

8. Derek and the Dominos(4 plays) Derek and the Dominos in my opinion are one of the most solid bands to ever exist. This week I had a real desire to admire the work of Duane and Clapton working off each other, mainly in key to the highway and Have You Ever Loved a Woman? Layla is perhaps the greatest album ever. I highly suggest it to anyone.

8. Rush (4 plays) Most of my Rush is on my old computer. A band that made some great music, and some terrible music. They are very talented nonetheless. Spirit of Radio gets me every time.

8 Jimi Hendrix (4 plays) I still fail to see Jimi in the God like sense that so many people do, or any more so than Eric Clapton or Stevie Ray Vaughan. Either way he has some great music, not sure where the 4 plays came from, but its nto many.

7 Cream (5 plays) Cream is phenomenal, its just like taking 3 of the best musicians you could ever find and letting them play their hearts out together. If you've never heard Cream live, you need to find some. The best i have is off of Those Were The Days Box Set, but there is other stuff out there and it really catches the true essence of Cream, i think.

6. The Beatles (6 plays) I'm not sure what to say, no matter what mood I'm in i just put on The Beatles on shuffle and every song is a joy to listen to. Especially their later albums. There's not much to it there…they are The Beatles.

5. Pink Floyd (8 plays) I've been in the mood for a little psychadelic weird shit. Hence…the pink floyd. They were a great band, made some amazing music. I love the early stuff, and especially the wall. The story in the wall is just so…disturbing.

6. The Allman Brothers Band (16 plays) Since Wanee, the music festival i went to, i have not been able to stop listening to them. Only their live material really but everything from Live at the Fillmore to the recordings of their shows in April the band is on fire. Duane Allman and Dickey Betts were an amazing duo in the early 70's, or 70 and 71, but today Derek Trucks of The Derek Trucks Band and Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule give them a run for the money. Not the originals but their playing never ceases to amaze me.

3. Elton John (17 plays) Elton John's music has always meant a lot to me emotionally. I enjoy his use of piano and his voice. I find his earlier work to be fantastic. His more popular songs like Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting don't really do it for me though, some great songs have become popular, but his best music lies in the tracks not known…I gave his album Tumbleweed Connection the first full listen in a very long time and I forgot how great it is.

2. Eric Clapton I honestly don't know what to say about him. He is my favorite musician ever. I think his more popular stuff overshadows his greatest work, where his guitar playing truly shines. From the Cradle is a great album. His current tour with Derek Trucks must be magnificent, i can't wait for it to come to the US…

1. Derek Trucks Band The best new band i've ever heard. They're still young (especially Derek) and so full of talent. The guitar work is phenomenal, but the entire band is so full of talent. I really suggest picking up Songlines, but to be honest, it doesn't touch their live material…that'd be my first priority.

So i picked a bad week to do this. Few plays and not much to say…sorry
