À propos de moi

Ben Eshmade isn't a man to stick to convention. While others are happy to stick all their eggs in one musical basket, Ben dares to break the rules. His background may be classical, but it wasn't long before he realised the staid concert halls weren't the right vehicle for his creative juices. So, like a snow globe, he shook things up a bit and the Arctic Circle was born.

The circle, conceived at the chilly start of 2006, is a fast growing community of all that's cool in contemporary music. Think cutting edge classical, lap-top ambience, live electronica and DJ sets and you're halfway there. Then factor in a comfortable and fun environment plus Ben's fondness for tea and cakes as a preferred catering option and you've pretty much got it. It might still be relatively young as a concept, but that hasn't stopped it being welcomed at some of London's most prestigious venues, including a hugely successful night at Tate Britain and it's new regular home at The Spitz. This pioneering vision isn't a new talent of Ben's - he's always had his finger on the pulse of new music and hasn't been afraid to share. Back in the early eighties, while others were getting flouncy with the New Romantics, he was showcasing the heady sounds of the Smurfs, Roland Rat and the Wombles on his battery powered record player, playing to exclusive crowds normally consisting of blood relatives. With such extensive training behind him, it was almost inevitable that he would eventually be let loose on the nation's airwaves.

The show that allows him to do that is The Chiller Cabinet. A hand selected mix of minimalism, ambient and film music every Saturday and Sunday morning from 2am to 4am, repeated Tuesday and Thursday 10pm to midnight. Starting life on Classic FM this has now moved it its new home on the digital station chill. You might think that was more than enough to keep him busy, but no, Ben is going all out for world domination.

He can now add recording artist to his list of talents. Just recently, he has been allowed to dust down his French Horn and add his delicate tones to recordings for the likes of Vincent Oliver, The Sleeping Years, Dollboy, Songdog, Psapp and Gavouna.
