You might also wanna try Kinstrife & Blood, I didn't listen to it personally but it is said that the material is heavily influenced by Summoning.

I was intrigued with the tone of the film they'd employ since it was mentioned they would make it fit seamlessly with LOTR, which is quite the darker book...they pulled it off with aplomb! Other than the escape from Misty Mountains, which was a bit over the top, really enjoyed the film :D Also loved all the additional lore they've included from other writings outside The Hobbit....who would have thought they'd get three films out of such a short book, but definitely doesn't seem bloated. Just waiting of the extended editions to be released now and am curious what was cut out :)

You're very lucky indeed, and good on you for resisting the temptation! I've been a bit sceptical in the past of bands I see as mimicking Summoning's sound but credit to Caladan Brood - they execute it really well and do have an identity of their own....still need to pick up the album. Couldn't quite get into Emyn Muil - think I found the vocals and production a bit weak but credit to them for at least writing an album around an incredible source - Children of Húrin is one of my favourite fantasy books! And yes, definitely would recommend listening to Stronghold more......when you've finished with Minas Morgul :D

Well, the Mischosen material is actually from 2007. and 2009. You should also try Elffor and Grabesmond :) I kinda dig how you take one Summoning song and then listen to it a bunch of times haha :D The legend of the master ring was first Summoning song that I have heard. I remember how I instantly fell in love with it and the atmospheric feeling. I was not into black metal at all back then but mostly power.

I ordered the limited edition boxset for Old Mornings Dawn....had to be done :D did fail to resist the temptation of listening to the leak, which I kinda regret as its a rubbish quality rip so gonna wait till I receive the real thing before I listen to it excessively. Minas Morgul is definitely an interesting and uncommon choice....mine would have to be Stronghold, perhaps cos it was my first exposure to the band but also quite a sombre yet epic release. Only just shades out Oathbound, which I really like for its guitar tone. Though strangely enough probably my two favourite Summoning songs are from Dol Gulder - Kôr and Over Old Hills....as you can see I have a terrible time trying to choose between all their work, it's just so consistent and incredibly epic throughout!

Hehe, I knew you would like it, he recorded one demo and an album, but the album is not so good, it's more like goth/doom.

I have to say the album is starting to grow on me. Btw. my friend just told me about Croatian Summoning-like band called Mischosen, here are some of the links he gave me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEuDakcNJhI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7srhFHWAUo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC58S03MFrc and the official page is http://www.mischosen.com there is more there.

Yet another masterpiece.I truly couldn't resist to wait more for an official release...http://plixid.com/2013/04/25/summoning-old-mornings-dawn-2013-mp3/ ....keeps getting better and better with each spin......seems to have lived up to my expectations...Good return of both wanderers...

Maybe, and maybe not. We'll see after the official release. My favourite is Oath bound, so I hoped they would continue in the vein of that album. Well, you know, I wouldn't jump to that kind of preconclusions, especially since you haven't heard it, you know, even the best band can make a weak album or a unexpected turnover, there's so many examples. And yeah, about the two geniuses, I have a feeling that this album is much more Protector than Silenius. That could be the reason for the lack of epic atmosphere, especially if you have some of his "Conan-like" pictures in mind. :) And yeah, in the meantime I managed to define what I said about the "synthetic" sound - it lacks the guitar sound of the Oath bound, well, I'd say it lacks guitars in generally. Also, after reading a interview with them, I learned that there is no actually played drums or percussions on this album - all of them are sampled which was not the case with Oath bound.

Well, I have to say that for now it doesn't impress me... I had big expectations after waiting for this album for such a long time. Frankly, I expected something more interesting, simmilar to Oath bound... Don't get me wrong, I don't say that this is bad music or anything, but, at least at this point I feel it to be pretty monotonous. Definetly it lacks the epic atmosphere of Let mortal heroes or Oath bound. As a matter of fact, I'd even say the sound is a bit to synthetic. Considering that it's a leak, there is a possibility that it's somekind of a pre-production recording, and anyways it's in pretty low quality, so I'll wait for the official release or my preorderd CD for the conclusion. Definetly it's pretty different than the last two albums, I expected it to be a continuation of that sound and production style, but I'd say it's more of a turnback to style of Dol Guldur.

They're one of my few very favourite bands, too. Though, I don't have much plays of them in the library, because I tend to listen to them on CD's, not mp3. Btw. I just got the info that the new album has leaked and I'm downloading it right now. Can't wait, I'm getting goosebumps.

À propos de moi

Ashen Cold

A grin and a word is his trade
From these his profit is made
Though his body is not tall and his courage seems small
His fame will take longer to fade

Beyond the ocean brews a battle
Beyond the battle blood shall fall
To a place where man forsaken
Dwells the one who should not live

Then a bargain shall be entered
Saurons might shall be restored
You and we were first to conquer
You and we shall be the last.

Farewell

Who can find you clear springs of waters, but I can!
Who can tell you the age of the moon, but I can!
Who can call the fish from the depths of the see, yes I can!
Who can change the shapes of the hills and the headlands, I can!

I have been a sword in the hand,
I have been a shield in a fight,
I have been the string of a harp,
I can shift my shape like a god.

Farewell, leave the shore to an ocean wide and untamed
Hold your shield high, let the wind bring your enemy your nightmare
By the bane of my blade, a mighty spell is made and
Far beyond the battle blood shall fall like a hard rain.
