hey, how are you doing over in Egypt? i just wondered because of the protests all over the middle east and north africa. i am very confused of how the protestors could believe that our government could endorse something so inflammatory and insulting to so many people. also, how in a country of this size and with so much freedom they could control every individual or group that was trying to cause such a reaction. for the simple purpose of fostering anti-muslim feelings in our country.

well our government almost always does what is best economically for our country and we usually do not hear about other countries unless we are bombing them. then the news is very limited.

part of the reason that racism did not really get ingrained was my mother was an immigrant from east berlin and growing up in this area i noticed some of the looks she got because of her accent . people around here are very nice if you are one of them. tea party republican

i was just wondering what was happening in egypt currently. lost contact with the situation because of our holidays. have the protesters made any progress in getting the military to loosen its control of its grip on power? feel free to correct any notion that i do not have correct.

well i have to agree with ashdinosaur about the racist comments. i live in an area in U.S. where most people have racist undertow, if they are not totally bigoted. i consider myself fair minded about race but growing up where i did in TX you just usually do not see black people except at night. oh i know using black people as term is not politically correct. but even i feel a tinge of fear late at night when young black male approaches me .oh and i do not live in very exclusive area. it is middle class region. but people like me have it drilled into them at young age. in my personal opinion, all minorities have a heavy burden to bare!!

The thing about racism is that so many white people think it literally means "you hate black people" or something similar and so based on that they don't see their actions as racist, and intent is fairly irrelevant when your actions are having real effects on real people regardless of your intentions. Bunch of interesting articles on the subject here that make some pretty coherent points: http://pigblog.tumblr.com/post/13023652355/things-for-white-people-to-read

lol I tried to tell my mum that all white people are racist and she hit me :'( It's true though, things aren't going to change until we realise that. It's not about feeling guilty, it's about unearthing the embedded indoctrination and working against it, which can only happen when white people start to realise the MAGNITUDE of it's assimilation into ALL white people. It took me 19 years to realise that. It's hard to sit and listen to the defensiveness when I know exactly what that feels like and I just want to shake them and say "BUT THINK OF EVERYONE YOU'RE HURTING!" This is quite the conversation, huh?

Good old indoctrination. It's interesting that sometimes if you're calling someone out on racism and you're white, they'll use your whiteness in their argument against you, as if they'd actually listen if you weren't white, when you know that wouldn't make them an iota more likely to consider your points, because you know, they don't have a basic understanding of why a POC might have a better idea of what is and isn't racist. And them someone will call someone a cracker and the "reverse racism!!!" shrieks start and out come the garlic and the crucifixes.
