Ahh sounds good. I had a book on the origins of Buddhism which was fantastic apart from the translator's interpretations which were bordering on insanity in places. As we said before, hit and miss.

What's the general make-up of that book? Is it a detailed philosophy or is it Taoism portrayed in a different way?

Not bad thankyou! Life's good atm! Rent's getting paid I've got my next year planned out and sorted and I've got plenty of time to relax and reflect. It's great! The 365 is a great little book although I confess I'm not sticking to the day by day but I don't really see that as a huge breach of Taoist contract haha! How are you?

Of course. By 'discover the Dao', I meant the concept of, I am like yourself - reading up on the philosophical side - but am a ways away from walking the path fully. You're right that the concepts aren't entirely unique, I'm sure that most authors of these works of fiction aren't aware of the Dao from a definitive perspective, but the fact it exists in their work shows there are multiple paths to its realisation. Which works of literature, and translations have you read regarding Daoism?

A Daoist, yes? Your featured films are interesting. Ever since I discovered the Dao, its very interesting how many films convey Daoist messages. From Lucas' Star Wars to Zhang Yimou's Hero, from Into the Wild to The Big Lebowski.

I've just been given a fantastic book from a friend called 365 Tao Meditations. Little slices of wisdom for each day of the year, I'm sure you would be interested! If you haven't come across it already that is.

Ah I see, I lived in Southampton for 3 years before moving to Winchester last year. Arnie's a family friend and my Mum used to sing in The Velvet Doonicans years back. It's great to see his music widely appreciated! The translation's worth a read but I'm yet to read a translation that strikes me as much as Wu's. There's some pretty awful one's out there. (In my humble opinion!).

Also, I was wondering how you came across Arnie Cottrell's music?

Yes it is a strange translation but I quite liked it. The book I physically own is translated by John C.H. Wu. I believe the translation on my page was written by Peter Merel. It's often pops up because Peter Merel created no copyright of the translation and allowed it to be used freely.

I've only heard one of their songs and I don't even remember what it was. All I remember is I thought there should be more bands like this.

À propos de moi

Presented in a sandwich of Taoism and Dudeism. But without the training or presence (or absence) of mind of either.
