Sonrisa Safia Elizabeth Watts was born December 13, 2000. Her first name, which is the Spanish word for smile has great meaning as Sonrisa was born to put a smile on people’s faces through her music.
She started singing about the same time as she began learning to speak and did her first home recording at 4. She was given a mike and some beats was told to sing. Sonrisa never looked back.
Sonrisa started talking about singing and being a ‘music star’ from about 6 yrs and still talks about it. Her parents have been finally convinced that she is going to follow no other career.
She did her first demo tracks at 9 years old. She wanted to do cover songs at the beginning but half way through decided that she wanted her own songs. She wrote, very quickly, two songs: “This Life” after hearing Don Carleon’s “Changes” riddim and falling in love with it and “Superstar”, using original beats. She soon after penned other songs including “Maybe If I try”, “Let’s Dance and “Be Somebody”, all of which have been recorded.
Her songs are currently being played on several local radio stations. She is currently advertising herself through Smile Caribbean Youtube channel where she has recorded over 19’000 upload views and her Facebook page “Sonrisa Superstar”, where she has over 8500 persons ‘liking’ per page and her music.
She just completed her first music video, a mix of two songs. Sonrisa is now 10 years old. She recently won a local vocals talent search competition for her age group and is involved in dance and music. She is also a Brownie Guide.
