"The Original Cowboy is an album of demos recorded by Against Me! in 2003. The demos were recorded prior to the band's second full-length, As the Eternal Cowboy.

The demos were recorded and mixed in only a few hours on July 15, 2003 at Goldenstone Studio with Rob McGregor, who had produced the band's prior full-length and 2 previous EPs. The band wanted to record the album in analog with minimal overdubs, which they could do at Ardent Studios, where As the Eternal Cowboy was eventually recorded. However, they wanted to keep McGregor as producer, so they recorded this demo to ensure he was familiar with the songs before arriving at Ardent.[1]

Regarding the demos, lead singer Tom Gabel remarked: "Recorded and mixed in only a couple of hours, The Original Cowboy was only meant to be a trial run, but, listening to it today, there's a part of me that feels foolish for ever recording these songs a second time."[1]"

I can't remember the last time I've been this stoked on a release. It's fucking great.
